Herald Kensit and Champion Dalkris
Kensit had a successful career in the Guard (as an Artificer, think Army Corp of Engineers) before retiring and working for the Guard designing bridges and dams. One day while trying to work through a problem, he wandered through Companion's Field and sat down to try to mentally talk his way through the issue. He thought he was talking to himself, but when he solved the problem and opened his eyes, he was greeted by a Companion - Dalkris.
Kensit's primary Gift is Animal Mindspeech, though he has enough Mindspeech to talk to Gifted who are physically near him. He investigates corruption, bribery, etc. It's amazing how much mice and birds can learn and see...
