Ignis Iguana

The Ignis Iguana, a robust and hardy lizard, is a fascinating creature adapted to extreme environments such as lava pits, active volcanoes, and deserts. Possessing a high tolerance for heat, these lizards often share territories with fire dragons and other fire elemental creatures. Their sturdy build and armored scales make them resilient, both in body and temperament, and they display a stubborn determination when pursuing their goals.

Ecological Relationships:

Fire dragons, appreciating the tenacity of Ignis Iguanas, allow them into their territories. In return, these lizards serve as a first line of defense, deterring creatures from encroaching too deeply. Ignis Iguanas exhibit surprising harmony with other species, showcasing a symbiotic relationship. Small birds assist in cleaning between their spiked scales, and the lizards permit smaller creatures to seek shelter in their burrows.

Geographic Range:

Despite being rare, Ignis Iguanas have been sighted on various continents. One island near Mesh-Ra houses a distinct population, shrouded in mystery due to its association with an unidentified fire elemental creature. The colony's size dissuades explorers from probing further into the unknown.

Diet:

Ignis Iguanas are opportunistic feeders, primarily consuming small mammals, insects, and roots. In times of scarcity, they scavenge carcasses or go without food and water for extended periods. Their ability to endure harsh conditions contributes to their survival in extreme environments.

Defense Mechanisms:

The Ignis Iguana employs bluffing as a primary defense mechanism, puffing up their spit sack to mimic the threatening rumble of a dragon. When this fails, they spit a concoction resembling lava that burns upon contact. This unique mixture is highly sought after by alchemists for its potency in potions and as an igniting fuel for bombs.

Sexual dimorphism

There is little noticeable differences between the male and females from afar. Females are often more aggressive and have been seen with more spikey scale growth around the neck and head compared with males. Due this some have troubles shedding, resulting in some building a couple of layers between the spikes. The social structure is matriarchal, females hold a very dominant position in colonies.

Ignis Iguana as Pets:

While not ideal pets, Ignis Iguanas are kept by magic users specializing in fire magic for their valuable spit sack mixture. Their challenging temperament and propensity for tantrums make bonding difficult. If kept as pets, they require a well-heated and dry environment, struggling in humid conditions. The benefits of their unique defensive mechanism, however, make them prized possessions among certain magical communities.
