Outpost Cadence

The Third outpost for workers and researchers hired by The Klementine Company. Set up 60 klicks inside The Yellowstone Plane, Wyoming and is currently abandoned due to attacks. The Outpost was short-lived as it was lost within two months of making grounds.

History

On August 11th, 1869. A team of researchers from Outpost Bessie started an expedition to make base further out into Yellowstone Plane. The idea for this new outpost was to bridge a route further into the plane safely. This fort would be crucial in further reaching explorations into the plane. The journey to the right spot for settlement took two days on foot,   Expedition gear and supplies were stockpiled at Outpost Cadence to become a central hub to reach new areas within the region. Stationed at Outpost Cadence was a research team of 25 men and 3 women, all with experience in navigation and bush tracks.

Reported Attacks

During October of 1869, Outpost Bessie lost communication with Outpost Cadence via any source. No couriers, mail, or telegrams were intercepted leaving a sudden thought that something devastating occurred. One by one, a handful of survivors returned with dehydration, injuries, and early on-set symptoms of Preacher Poisoning. A total of four survivors made it out and gave out testimonies on what happened over at Outpost Cadence.   Dr. Henry Fitzgerald, Plane Researcher for the Klementine Company recounted the situation when an exploration team went missing.
"It was around the 3rd or 4th of October. We had a small team planned to investigate the northmost area of the outpost. We had a minor finding of a naturally formed pillar or monument found in the area and wanted to confirm it for further geographical accuracy. Not amazing but it helps with the discovery.
As it was coming to their schedule arrival time back, around 7 o'clock, There was no signs of them. 6 hours of exploring and 6 hours back, thats what we all agrred on, especially this early into the expedition. We of course waited a few hours more hoping they lost track of time, cause its fairly common to do so when theres no visible sky at all. We waited another couple of hours and still no sign.
Thats when Kissinger decided to form a rescue party..."
- Dr Henry Fitzgerald November 5th, 1869
Walt Kissinger proceeded to conjure a rescue party to save the missing explorers. More information on the 'Lost Pillarmen' can be found here (article coming soon). Kissinger couldn't locate the bodies but did notice a struggle had occurred around the boom cart that was left behind.   The following weeks at the outpost were filled with various encounters. Property is lost, foul stenches outside the settlement, and the sound of howls.   An excerpt from Madeline Parsnips' recount of a personal incident at Outpost Cadence:
"I woke with my eyes closed. It was the same feeling as if someone was watching me, feeling the breath hit your skin. All i could do is pretend to sleep, I wasn'y sure what would happen if I jumped up.
But curiosity did get to me. I slowly opened my eyes with a slant, seeing through my eyelashes. The only thing that stood out in that dark room was the darker figure in the corner with its head touching the ceiling. My heart and breathing stopped in shock. I felt as if the grim reaper was waiting for my last few minuteso n this earth."
- Madeline Parsnip, Field Nurse at Outpost Cadence 1869
The straw that made the entire team evacuate the outpost was a vicious sandstorm with glowing sand in the air ripping through tents and chipping wood. While attempting to bunker down, the research team was reported to be attacked by a pack of some sort of creature. They ripped through the defenses of the outpost and eviscerated anyone too slow or too stupid to fight back.   An excerpt from Donald Trilliad's recount of the Sandstrom incident:
" A vicious pack of hollow and midnight beasts, bring the force of a sandstorm wherever they prowled."
- Donald Trilliad, Expedition Expert stationed at Outpost Cadence, 1869

Present Day

The outpost has since been entirely abandoned and avoided during expeditions. The bodies of any missing have not been recovered. It is rumored a community of Plane Preachers reside in the ruins of the old outpost, blabbering amongst each other about patriotic tendencies to the Yellowstone Plane. In updated maps of the Yellowstone, the Outpost has been redacted entirely, only known by veterans within the plane.
