Arathis Starsilver

Arathis is a half-elven nobleman who has charmed his way into the good graces of King Serops. He appeared somewhat out of nowhere, though he claims to be an offshoot of the Esteria Elf family. Considering the Esteria family stood with the Cragslayer Dwarf clan during the Blood War and lost the vast majority of their members, there are not enough of them around to refute or confirm the claim. Arathis took the name Starsilver, a Common translation of the Esteria family name, to indicate his family blood while paying homage to his half-human heritage.
Arathis has been a favourite of King Serops and one of the only members of his court who does not have Yuan-Ti blood. He first met the king at a party, happening upon Serops when the king was bored and lonely. He struck up a conversation with Serops and the two hit it off. He claims it was all a lucky coincidence, but it seems strange to the king's advisors that Arathis was not on the guest list for the party and no-one had heard of him before that day. Despite Serops' advisors warning him that Arathis may be a spy or an assassin, the king will not hear anything against the half-elf and he has become the king's constant companion.
While many might assume that this was a romantic interest (and indeed, the king does seem rather heart-struck by the handsome half-elf) this does not seem to yet be the nature of their relationship. The king's advisors are making their best attempts to find some kind of replacement for Arathis in Serops' affections amongst the wealthy families of the city or the Yuan-Ti blood so a marriage can be wrought.
For his part, Arathis is a kind and cheery individual who manages to convince most people he talks to that his intention is just to be an excellent friend rather than any ulterior motive. For those who listen to such whispers, he is known to have turned down generous offers of recompense for information on the king, and while he has a solid friendship with Serops' human sister Mella, he does not seem to be courting her either.
