The Wildfire Sea

Travellers may find the Wildfire Sea wondrous to behold, but its effervescent rainbow surface is a volatile mixture of elemental forces at odds with one another. The Wildfire Sea is the product of runoff from the elemental planes, though whether it is a feature of Derelict that has always existed or the result of some unwise breach into the upper planes is unknown.   The Wildfire Sea and its environs are not claimed by any Trashlords and thus are a popular place for Bands of Raiders to set up camp, if they can survive the harsh climate caused by constantly-discharging elemental forces nearby and the hardy animals that live nearby.

Geography

The coastal sands of the Wildfire Sea are unpredictable, but often hold a degree of elemental magic of their own. These sands can be highly reactive when removed from their beach environment, though, and it is advisable to take great care when transporting them, as more than one traveller has been injured by a collection of Wildfire Sand going off in their bags...or worse, pockets. The Wildfire Sea can only be traversed in specially-designed ships that seek to defend against or neutralise the elemental forces of the Sea.

Fauna & Flora

The creatures of the Wildfire Sea have adapted to their extreme environment, from the useful Battery Fish to the huge Crackensnakes who glide effortlessly through lightning-filled acid waters breathing fire and cold together. Those few fishers who brave the sea regularly carry neutralising fishing nets and harpoons to reduce the risk of accidents. Even so, it is considered to be a foolhardy occupation.   Battery Fish are much prized amongst practitioners of the arcane arts and crafters because they hold a small amount of the elemental energies they are exposed to within themselves. They have an adaptive elemental type, meaning that when they come into contact with an element, they shift to that type and draw it into themselves as an energy source. Some wizards keep tanks of Battery Fish in their workshops, but this can be treacherous, as they can be aggressive towards one another and expend their energy attacking fish of a different elemental type, even if they had previously been part of the same school. Obviously, this also has implications for the health of their tanks and said wizards' workshops...

Natural Resources

Naturally-forming Wildfire Crystals build up in the Wildfire Sea. Some can grow to the size of small mountains, albeit mountains made entirely of crystallised elemental force. Other, smaller fragments are found along the beaches of the Sea, rolled smooth like seaglass, but much more likely to set you on fire. These crystals are a core part of the crafting tradition in Detritus, faceted and polished by skilled and careful crafters to direct the energies within to a productive end.
