The Betwixt

On the outermost layer of everything rests a dark void which contains all of existence. Within the Betwixt, countless dimensions glow like stars in the night, orbs containing worlds of their own.

The Barrier

Despite the fact that the Betwixt is known to any spacial mage worth their salt, and can be seen rather easily, nobody has ever been able to break through the barrier and access it.   This is due to the influence of the Continuum, preventing things from being where they should not be by establishing an impenetrable barrier between the Betwixt and whatever is trying to pass in.

Discovery

When the first spacial mages of the world began to understand the nature of teleportation and dimensions, they felt a great sensation outside of the dimensions of the world, as if the dimensions were just bubbles among a great sea.   Upon exploring it further, they discovered that this existed everywhere, and no matter what they tried, they could not get to it.

Description

The Betwixt is described by many as a large void, with dimensions acting like stars (though some describe the sight of all the dimensions as "bubbles").   It doesn't appear to have an end to it, and nobody truly knows if this is because of how dark it is, or because it is indeed infinite.

Use in Teleportation

Since the discovery of it, the Betwixt has been used by spacial mages for teleportation magic (specifically on a dimensional scale). Because of the barrier preventing exit from dimensions, space can be woven to bend the barrier, and connect two points between dimensions, allowing for transportation between them.
