Nicole, the Celestial of Compassion

One of the mysterious and legendary Celestials, Nicole is the Celestial of compassion. She appears across many forms of myth and legend and is seen as a figure of kindness, generosity, and care.
I believe people often forget how much they can affect others and how much influence they can have. Even just a single word can destroy someone's happiness.
— Nicole

History

Nicole first appears in the ancient romance between the Commander and his wife Celosia, the Celestial of fire. She is one of Celosia's friends and was said to have attended their wedding. Little is known of her birth and early life, but she is always referred to as a first-generation, suggesting that her origins are magical rather than natural. Aside from her presence in the myths of important Celestials, Nicole also appears in many legends from small villages across the galaxy. In every story, she is portrayed as kind, gentle, and motherly. She often arrives to help people who are suffering from famine, disease, or war.   Nicole is one of the few Celestials who is not mentioned as taking part in the Celestial
by Lilliana Casper
War. Some believed she refused to be involved with a conflict that would kill so many and some believed she was simply elsewhere when events unfolded. Whatever her reasons, Nicole did not interact with other Celestials until the story After Grief, which was written around 2500 BPC. In this myth, Nicole helps two other Celestials, Dolores and Natasha, to overcome their grief. At the end of the story, Nicole departs to visit another Celestial, one she has recently seen, who told her to check on Dolores and Natasha.
Although Nicole continues to appear in children's tales and local myths all across the galaxy, she is rarely seen in the company of other Celestials. The Celestial she is most often with is Felicia, the Celestial of food. The two women appear in their joint myths spreading joy and kindness through poor villages and telling stories of other Celestials.   Like all the Celestials, Nicole is believed by most in the IPA and around the galaxy to be a myth and a story to entertain people. Most people who believe in her existence are from small planets outside of the IPA.

Holidays

Generally, Nicole is honored on the third Saturday of June in the Standard Galactic Calendar. She is also honored on Thursdays. However, the dates of her feast days often change depending on the planet, considering that the residents memorialize the days she has helped them rather than a specific one. The tradition of honoring her on Thursdays and the third Saturday of June originated thousands of years ago and it is believed that she told people those days were important to her.

Appearance & Renderings

Nicole has been described as a taller woman with dark brown hair and brown eyes. Witnesses claim that she usually wears dark colors, often brown, red, or sometimes blue. Her hair is braided and pinned up at the back of her head, but some have seen it down and brushing her waist. Her skin is described as naturally tan and her features are often less well-described. The one thing in common with all descriptions of her face is that she is beautiful, with many saying that her appearance reflects her kind and gentle soul perfectly.   Most artists favor depicting Nicole as either a humble woman doing her work or as a goddess glowing with warmth and kindness. In small villages touched by her compassion, local artists often make sketches of her face and figure. These sketches provide professional artists with references for their works. One of the most popular images of Nicole is a stained glass window made for a museum that depicts the Celestial dressed in red, her hair flowing around her, eyes closed peacefully, as she stands amidst a crowd of people stretching out their hands to her, begging for aid. Nicole is seen bathed in brilliance, offering her love to all.
