Personal history

Not much is known about Brellgyr's early life though he apparantely claimed he was raised amongst the fey from whom he picked up his skills with word, melody and rythmn. He claimed to have been exiled from the fey's magical realm for proving he was their better when it came to composing music, and if he was responsible for even half the songs now attributed to him then he may not have been overstating his talents.  What os reasonably certain is that he spent his early days wandering the roads and singing at taverns to earn his keep.   Where Brellgyr's story starts to diverges from that of a typical bard is the time he took a position with a mage who wanted a bard to provide music while he studied.  This mage had more than a passing interest in music and insisted that any bard he haired produce new pieces on a regular basis.  Whether Brellgyr had studied composing before or not, it seems he learned a lot from studying the mages collection of musical theory.  While not certain it also appearrs that Brellgyr also learned som magic while staying with this mage.  At the very least the later stories of Brelllgyr make mention of him using magic.   After spending a few years entertaining this mage, Brellgyr left to see whether he could find a new patron who didn't live days travel from civilisation.  His new musical knowledge let him sell himself as troubadour, with a talent for creating richer sounding music that required multiple performers.  He further enhanced these performances with little acts of magic, sending lights dancing above his head which reflected off his scales (which he kept well polished) to create flashing patterns of light around the room.   Everyone he played for was delighted with his music and Brellgyr found he could earn a comfortable living either establishing himself with a patron or by playing the nobles against each other as they bid for his services.  Ultimately it was his own appetite for trying new things that finally persuaded Brellgyr to leave a comfortable patronage and travel again.  No longer forced to constantly ingratiate himself with one host, Brellgyr felt freer to flirt with the noblewomen.  It was during that period that it is believed that most of the his sonnets and odes were compoesd.  Despite how is frequently protrayed it appears that Brellgyr did not turn up to perform at a noble's house one day, seduce the prettiest women in one performance, and leave the next day.  There are several examples where there are over 50 dufferent compositions that appear to be dedicated to one woman.   Brellgyr's most famous romance is of course his extended courtship of Edellin, Princess of Filishar.  Hired by the King to create a large musical composition that would be played at the end of the Great Tournament, Brellgyr was warned not to come within speaking distance of the princess.  Taking this as a challenge, Brellgyr found creative ways of sending messages through music, magic, and the occasional smuggled note.  The morning after the Great Tournament, and a triumphant performance of Brellgyr's new composition, the troubadour was nowhere to be found and neither was the princess.  A search of the princess' room turned up her diary in which she had recorded Brellgyr's numerous messages to her.  A hunt was launched for the pair but they were never found.  The King considered burning the score of Brellgyr's last composition by way of revenge, but Brellgyr had anticiapted this and copies had been shared with assorted performers to ensure the music survived.
