C10-94-13-02 An Unequal Partnership
For many cycles the people of Khezdur Inave benefited from longstanding agreements with the Kingdom of the Forest. Trade has flowed between our lands and both sides have come to the other’s defence when needed. However, in recent years there has been a shift in the relationship. Where once our lands worked together, more and more it seems like Khezdur is being treated as a subservient state. While there is no denying that the elves provided vital support in helping Khezdur weather the years of demon attacks, it has been over a cycle since this help was provided and many would now question how much is still owed for this favour.
With the tariffs levied by the elven kingdom proving ever more burdernsome for our merchants buying and selling from the forest it seems that the elves no longer value trade as they once did. Part of this may be because they see that we have no alternative markets. This lack of other trading partners can again be traced back to the elves as they provoked the ire of the human controlled lands. Stoking the fires of xenophobia has led to the lands to the west, who in ages past provided a valuable market for our goods, viewing all other lands as enemies.
Even when it comes to defence the elves are less reliable than they once were. With reports of increasing goblinoid activity in the mountains we once would have expected to see elven forces marching north to join us in battle, but now all we see are a few token soldiers who are little more than a scouting team. Even these few soldiers have proven to be troublemakers, with one alrady arrested, most likely sent to Khezdur to stop them causing trouble in the forest.
Despite all of these problems there has been no word of The Magrannor doing anything to stand up to the elves. According to some senior Clan leaders he is even spending more effort in making sure more unreasonable demands from the elves are met, ignoring the calls from his own people to remedy this worsening inequality between the two lands. It is surely only a matter of time before there is either a general boycott of elven goods or all trade is cut-off by a need to draw back within the walls.
