Lithegach

A bovine creature that used to be herded on the continent of Beraca.

Basic Information

Anatomy

These heavyset mammals used to roam the continent of Beraca. Resembling the cows found in Kaara, these slightly larger creatures had short yellow brown fur, and wide horns. Despite how heavy they looked there was less meat on them than a cow as much of their weight was in the large amount of water stored in the creature's body.

Dietary Needs and Habits

These creatures could eat most forms of plant life, though their preferrd food was river reeds. When these weren't available they would eat grass, or almost any form of greenery.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

These creatures were raised for a variety of purposes. The first was for milk which was used both for drinking and in many dishes. The second was for leather as the creatures' hides were somewhat thicker than a cows. They were also used for meat, though care had to be taken with their diet. If a lithegach had consumed too much cactus then this could cause a stomach upset for anyone eating the meat.
Since the milk isn't affected by the lithegach eating cactus people tried cooking the affected meat in the milk in an attempt to make it edible. If anything this only increased the stomach problems experienced from eating the meat
The hooves and horms of this animal could also be rendered down to make glue, though this was only done in a few places as it took considerable effort and produced an unpleasant odour.

Extinction
Despite being a very useful animal for the people of Beraca the elves did not prioritise saving these creatures from the years of darkness. Those that treid surviving with the aid of the elves also found that there was no practical way of preserving these creatures as they amount they needed to eat and the amount of noxious gases they produced would bring down a shelter in almot no time.
