Wolfskin cloak

Wolfskin cloaks are far from an unusual sight, Even ones with the head turned into a hood are not all that unusual. But this particular cloak grey fur cloak stands out from the rest due to it still being occupied by the spirit of the wolf.   When left unattendend the cloak will occasionally become filled with the spectral form of a wolf. This wolf typically causes havoc wherever the cloak was stored, tearing apart clothes, ripping holes in furniture, and smashing anything remotely breakable. However, it never seems seems to attack people or animals. The look the lifeless head gives people may make them think that it wants to attack but there are no documented cases of having done so.   Even when worn the cloak may develop a life of it's own. While worn the head may become filled out with the spectral wolf's head and it will grown and whine at the wearer, interspaced with the occasional howl. If the wearer approaches a junction the cloak will attempt to drag the wearer down a path of it's choosing. The reason behind a choice of path is far from clear, and some suspect that it may be totally random.   Attempts to remove the wolf spirit haunting the cloak have proved unsuccessful leading to speculation that the spirit may be something more than a common wolf.

History

The cloak first appeared at the University of Trem late in the third age. It was found in a cloakroom and was the only one still intact, with the rest being mere scraps on the floor. At first it was suspected that the damage had been done by the building's cat. But when similar damage kept happening around the cloak suspicions were raised. After the wolf spirit had been observed animating the cloak some attempts were made to communicate with it but to no avail. Since no owner could be found the cloak was sold off as curiosity, and swiftly sold on once the novelty had worn off or the damages had gotten too expensive.
The cloak isn't possessed by a spirit at all. It was enchanted by a gnome prankster Tarn Amakir. He planted the cloak in the university after getting kicked out for an entirely different prank. It is designed to animate at random intervals and make noises that can best be described as wolf like, but it's not like city dwellers or those at the university would know what a wolf really sounds like.
