The Milky Way
Our Neighborhood
The only galaxy we may ever know as more than a spot of light in the sky. This largish spiral is 8,496,716,000,000 times the width of Earth—a planet so large compared to the little creatures that crawl across its surface it is highly doubtful any one of them could ever fully explore the entire place in even a dozen lifetimes, and still just a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
