The City, A story from the Realm of Pi

Once a long time ago there was a city. Made of gold. It shone so bright one could see it from many many kilometers. So many came to visit to see the wonder that was the city of gold. They revealed in the wealth on display the wonder. so it was that all who could came to this city. It brought the poor and the desprate but also the greedy. So it was that a great army stood at the gates of the Golden city. They wanted the wealth of the city for themselves. BUt the walls of the city were too strong. The army could not break those who guarded the city. But the rulers of the City of Gold knew that in time the army would win. They would come and kill everything and take the riches of the City of Gold from those who it belonged to rightly. Some of the rulers wanted to take the gold and run leaving the guards to distract the Army. Others thought such a thing so cowardly that they shuned that ruler. But another came forth with a new suggestion. For it was the precieved wealth that of the City that brought doom to the city. But those who lived in the City knew that the real treasure was not the gold but what it stood for. The Rulers of the City called upon their god, a giving god who loved their people. So with the god there surely the army would be no match for the City. But the god stood on the wall and fought but the army still grew not shrunk. So the Rulers asked for a favor of the God. They asked to forsake the gold of their city. To make that which shined into something less atractive. So the god nodded and set to work. He replaced the gold in the buildings. He replaced the gold in the hand of the workers. He replaced it all with something as pretty but less wanted. At first the people of the City mourned their loss but the replacement still did what the gold used to. It made the city glitter. It made the city fancy. But it was not valuded by those outside the city like gold was. Greed brought the army to the City but with the gold gone they saw no need to fight. Sure some stayed to try to take the city anyway but the gates opened and the army marched in looking for the Gold only to not find it. The searched everwhere for it but it wasn't there. The Army left defeated by their own greed. For only greed could keep so many fighting and with out a promise brought on by the army could no longer stay. The City, now made of glass, stood tall and free once more. It still shines far on the other side of the world marveling those that travel there. For nothing shines like the City but now you can take part of the city with you. In fact there is a piece in your home.
