The festival of the Harvest Moon

The festival of the harvest moon is a huge celebration that everyone in the village takes part in. It is a food-focused event, and everyone brings homemade food to the table in the center of town. The children celebrate and run around town with ribbons and other toys, and the adults talk about what has happened in the past year. People gather together and celebrate their prosperity. Everyone gets to know each other. It’s generally a very nice time for everyone involved, and many people enjoy it. Not many people travel, they usually stay in their own village. Every kingdom celebrates this holiday, and the royal family has their feast in their castle's grand hall. Every kingdom has its own version of the celebration, and every village does things a little differently than the next.

History

Back in the day, farmers would depend on the harvest moon to determine whether or not they should be planting new crops, and what kind of plants they should be planting. It is still used as a guide to farming, but with their standard calendars, it isn’t used primarily as a guide anymore. It is only used as a celebration date at this point, and many people forget why they celebrate the day.

Components and tools

There is a huge feast in each village and everyone comes out to celebrate. Everyone brings at least one food, and even though many people bring the same thing, no one minds because everyone enjoys the food and celebrating with their friends and neighbors.

Observance

The festival takes place during the harvest moon every fall. It doesn't land on a set date, but usually happens during the second month of fall. People can see it in advance because of the moon's light leading up to it.
