Orks

Goblins

Goblins are short people with relatively large heads and noses. They live much shorter lives than humans, but they are generally murdered before their natural lifespan comes into play.

They form the lowest rank of Ork society, serving as animal herders, craftsmen and personal servants for their stronger kin. They are a rare sight to see outside of Orkagr as they generally don't fight on the frontlines when the orks raid human settlements. They usually stay behind in their camps to prepare meals and cages for the returning orks and captives.

Very little is known about goblin society as the slaves that get to see them rarely survive their captivity.

Stereotypes (by humans):
  • Goblins are generally viewed as weak and worthless in a fight.
  • Unlike their larger cousins, goblins are thought to be cunning.
  • Nobody trusts a goblin.
  • Goblins are generally seen as ugly and hideous with a few rare exceptions.

Half-Orks

All half-orks are born as a result of an ork forcibly breeding with a humanoid (be it human or elf). Most of human knowledge about ork society comes from half-orks as they are often accepted into human society, unlike their 'pure' kindred. They are generally stronger and more resilient than a regular human, but their mental capabilites often suffer for it. They generally live as long as a human, but often end up as mercenaries, which is undoubtedly a dangerous lifestyle.

They represent an odd exception when it comes to orks as they are readily accepted into human societies and in rare cases, into the Order as well. As there are far fewer half-orks than regular orks or goblins, they don't fulfill a specific role in ork society, which allows them to leave their tribe and search their own destiny.

As the majority of half-orks that live amongst humans learn their language, they are well understood and known about. Especially in the Mountain Kingdom of Gannau, half-orks are often seen in towns and cities as guards or swords for hire.

Stereotypes (by humans):
  • Half-orks are known to be strong and capable warriors.
  • They are viewed as the 'best of their kind', or the 'exception'.
  • They are often thought to be hard-headed.

Orks

Orks form the backbone of every ork raiding party as they are strong, resilient and fast. In a one on one fight, an ork grunt can easily defeat an equally skilled human. Their martial prowess is somewhat hindered by their intelligence, which can be exploited. Noone really knows how long an ork would live before they become too old as they are always killed during a raid or by a fellow ork before they could get old.

Orks are the most numerous members of ork society and thus fulfill most of its roles. They are fighters, crafters, builders and much more. Orks only ever visit human civilization when going on a raid or when they are taken captive by humans, the latter of which is quite difficult to accomplish.

People know very little about orks and they generally don't want to know about their lives. The main reason behind this is their aggressive nature.

Stereotypes (by humans):
  • Orks are known to be strong and powerful, but stupid.
  • They are viewed as little more than animals.
  • Despite their ability to speak, people generally think that talking will get you nowhere.

Orogs

Orogs are often confused with regular orks, but Orogs are larger and stronger than an average ork. One can't blame those that confuse them however. Both orks and orogs are large, stocky creatures with prominent tusks and greyish, greenish skin. An ork tribe is often lead by an Orog, who is capable of defeating an ork without too much issue. Their size doesn't come without a disadvantage however as they are even less intelligent than an average ork.

Thanks to their similarity to regular orks, few people know about their existence, most of whom live on the outer edges of Orkagr.

Ogres

Ogres are the largest members of the ork family and are feared combatants on any battlefield. They are strong, hulking brutes with very little in terms of intelligence to them. Their small intellect causes them to be easily controlled and manipulated. They look like big, fat orks who wear very little protection as their thick skin can withstand significant punishment.

Those that live on the borders of Orkagr are well aware of the ogres' existence, but those that live further away often doubt that such creatures could exist.

Ork settlements

Orks generally live in small tribes of around 100-200 individuals, but in rare cases, they can exceed this number. While the size of a particular settlement rarely grows beyond this, orks are known to subjugate other ork tribes, effectively making them their 'vassals' and providing additional orks to their chiefdom.   The largest such chiefdom was seen during the Ork War, where tens of thousands of orks all obeyed one overlord. Such a large ork horde is exceptionally rare however and shouldn't be expected.

Technology

Orks are generally considered to be animals at worst and barbaric brutes at best. Regardless, their ability to make sophisticated tools and weapons leaves room for improvement. They can and will use equipment, such as armour and weapons taken from humans, but they are usually incapable of producing anything more complex than a bow and arrows. For this reason, seasoned and or older ork warriors usually boast much better equipment than their younger brethren.
