Wolvewich Forest

The Source

Deep within the woods of Wolvewich lies the Source. No one knows it, or remembers it as all who have came close to it have been taken by the many creatures that lurk within the forest.

The Source is an entity of immense power. Whether it is a creature or just a piece of stone, no man knows. All that is known is that animals and other, more feral monstrosities answer to its call and gain some of its power if they listen to it. It has drawn many beasts to it throughout the centuries, even some that live in far-off lands. How these creatures made the journey - nay, the pilgrimage - to this forest is the greatest mystery...

The Beasts

Not all creatures of the Wolvewich forest are of an alien build. Bears, wolves and even rabid dogs roam amongst the trees, looking to feast upon anyone who is foolish enough to venture deep within the forest. The further you venture, the more grotesque and mutated these animals become, however. Great hunters and warriors tell the tales of giant wolves and bears with bones sticking out of their hides.   Some of these animals have earned quite a reputation over their unnaturally long lifetimes. The best known predator in the woods is an owlbear, nicknamed the 'Mighty Poultry'. Despite its mockery of a name, she has killed over a hundred people over the past 20 years, with few survivors telling her tale.

The Monsters

The abnormal animals that hunt within the woods are only the most common foe one can face amongst the trees. Monstrosities, meaner and far more dangerous than even the 'Mighty Poultry' tread the paths within the forest. Trolls, living trees and others also find their home in these woods where they prey on the beasts that humans fear. Thankfully, these vicious creature stay close to the Source and if one is careful, they can avoid them entirely.

The Spirits

Various spirits also haunt the cursed forest. Most of them are the lingering souls of the hunters who sought to find glory in the woods. Now, they wander aimlessly as Will-o-Wisps and help hunters in their quests by guiding them towards promising foes to slay. Others, like the souls of children, slain by the many beasts that lurk among the trees play eternally amongst the shrubbery, often tricking travelers and playing pranks on them.
