The Eyes of Ascension, also known simply as the Eyes, are the primary method the church has of acting in the populous. They witness and record any event deemed to be official, and act as an elite policing force of the empire. While their appearance does not directly indicate this, they seem to undergo some kind of change during their recruitment which grants them superhuman abilities. All members of the Eyes have their heads shaven, and a tattoos in an eye pattern the back of their head, on their chest, and backs of their hands.

Responsibilities

The Eyes of Ascension have two primary duties.
The first is to oversee official business agreements, document them, and testify upon prosecution. They can be hired to oversee events no matter how minor they may be, and their observation of a contract is what validates it. Should a contract not be validated by an Eye, it is not legally binding.
Secondly, they act as an elite policing force in cantons, most prominently in Sorenel. They seem to be supernaturally equipped for this task, having increased senses and other mysterious augmentations. Rumor has it they have access to both Spellweaving as well as large quantities of Trymic Coal. Additionally, they often act as mediators among noblemen, settling minor and major disputes without a need for court.
