Sprejgazalts
Properties
Material Characteristics
Sprejgazalts appear as small crystals that have a dull glow to them. They are small and rough like table salt.
Physical & Chemical Properties
Sprejgazalts are highly combustible when shattered. Luckily their crystalline structure is shockingly rigid, but if the inner gases of the crystal are exposed to oxygen, a violent combustion occurs.
Geology & Geography
Sprejgazalts is found occurring naturally underground in Northern Waihohn. The mountain ranges in Northern Waihohn are brimming with these small crystals which line the walls of natural caves. The caves they are found in are generally sealed off and contain very little air, making their mining an ordeal.
Origin & Source
Sprejgazalts are the result of an understudied crystal that seems to release some sort of extremely hydrophobic gas or gasses inside of itself. These gasses are assumed to be a byproduct of the crystals development though studies are few and far between given the volatile nature of the substance.
History & Usage
History
Firearms had been conceived of for a while before the discovery of sprejgazalts but the rarity of black powder meant that the discovery of sprejgazalts' combustible properties gave an obvious use. Sprejgazalts became the gunpowder of choice, especially in Waihohn where it was found in large quantities. The absolute minuscule amount of sprejgazalts it required to fire a gun made them an efficient resource to power these modern weapons. Sprejgazalts are still extremely volatile and their history is marred by tragedy but their utility and the fortune they have brought to Stabherland is unquestionable.
Before their adaption as gunpowder, sprejgazalts were nothing more than a mining hazard. Early delvers into the mountains in Waihohn were obliterated when their pickaxe struck the salts and caused chain reactions, crumbling caves and killing hundreds. Now with their properties known, finding these tiny crystals in your mine is not an omen of death but of wealth.
Everyday use
Sprejgazalts are synonymous with modern gunpowder, being the combustible reactor of today's pistols, rifles, and shotguns. These weapons are still extremely volatile and rare so it is not a commoners experience to deal with sprejgazalts but large militaries and militias will stockpile barrels of the stuff.
Ship cannons and service arms of naval men are packed with sprinkles of sprejgazalts, pulled from their anaerobic housing fluid to launch deadly shots where needed.
