Adviser

General Type (Support)

Komon (顧問): A general of the Adviser Type may "attach" themselves to the leader of any force. If they choose to do so, they grant their normal bonuses to fielding score from Leadership and Tactics, but are themselves not counted for the purposes of calculating deployment.   Timely Advice: By providing a key insight at just the right moment, an adviser is often able to salvage an otherwise hopeless situation. Once per round, a general of the Adviser Type may expend a passive action to allow an ally who can hear them to reroll a single secondary ability check. This ability must be used after the dice are rolled but before the outcome is stated. In addition, the secondary ability must be one that the Adviser is trained in. An Adviser may use this ability a number of times per time block equal to their INT characteristic.

Adviser Variant: Tactician

Advisers of the Tactician variant do not gain the Timely Advice benefit, but instead receive the following ability:   Senjutsu (戦術): Every tactician of note has one particular area of expertise; a technique on the battlefield that gives them an edge in battle. Generals of the Tactician variant may develop their own unique tactic that grants one of the following effects:
  • Grants a bonus equal to the Tactician's level (rounded up to the nearest 5) to a single action type, damage type, or resistance during combat.
  • Allows affected allies to ignore or alter a single rule of combat (within reason).
  • Grants a bonus of +1 per every General Rank above D to AC.
  • Grants a bonus of +2 per every General Rank above D to Fortitude or Breakage for either weapons or armor.
Other tactics not covered by the above rules should be considered on a case by case basis by the GM. Senjutsu effects are voluntary, passive actions activated on the Tactician's turn, and are applied to all allies currently benefitting from the Tactician's Tactics ability in mass combat, or within range of sight and hearing in normal combat. Only one Senjutsu effect can be active at any time. If a second tactic is activated in the same round, the first immediately ends. If a third is attempted, conflicting orders ensue and all Senjutsu bonuses are lost until the beginning of the next round.
