Canal District
Lifeblood of Wakigami
Located at the very center of Wakigami, the Canal District is built around a river which cuts through the city, sourced by rainfall and meltwater from the mountains around it. This canal is an important part of Wakigami’s infrastructure, as it not only provides clean drinking water for the citizens, but also allows a way for goods to be safely transported on small barges to the base of the mountain, without the trouble of navigating the winding paths leading down from the city. In summer, various harmless water-dwelling yōkai are known to frolic through the river, most notable among them being the Kappa, which usually shun human civilization. The priests at Tōdai-ji turn a blind eye to these visitors, but are sure to eliminate any more dangerous specimens.
