Elyan

Written by MaroPlz

Summary

Loyal to his family to a fault, Elyan would often find himself getting into fights with children and adults alike when he would overhear them talking down to his family, often insulting his father. Elyan often heard the townspeople talk about his father as if he did something seriously bad, but whenever he brought it up, Garreth would just shrug it off and then scold Elyan for getting into fights.   After his year and some time with the Bharanans, the hot headed boy who dreamed of growing up to be a knight had soon become more level headed and mature, finding the enjoyment in fishing and sailing the seas. As well, he was often the protector of the fleet as they sailed the seas, as if some part of him still hoped to be a knight.

Personal history

The Early Years
Growing up in an unremarkable small fishing village off one of the many coasts of Albion, Elyan, alongside his twin sister Elaine have not experienced much of the world, as their father Garreth opted to raise his children away from the large bustling cities. They lived a carefree and uneventful life, sailing out every day and learning all that their father had to teach in the art of fishing and navigating the seas.   That seclusion wouldn’t change the fact that they loved to hear stories from their father about all things of the realm, be it the knights, such as Lancelot, Galahad, or Bedivere, or of the more mysterious parts of Albion, like the Woodkin or Fairies. While Elyan would sit starry eyed at the stories of the knights and their battles, his sister Elaine had a more soft side and enjoyed the stories of the nature and beauty of the land.
The Visitor
A few years later, at the ages of 16, the twins lives would be thrown into discord as they received unexpected visitors at their doorstep. After being put to bed one night Garreth received a visitor in the form of Andred, one of the Pendragons' most trusted advisors, and a small contingent of men.   Hearing the noise below the twins awoke and quietly listened in on their fathers’ conversation; Andred had need of Garreths finesse in sailing, which he came recommended from everyone in the town. Garreths missions was simple, he need only transport Andred and his men to a predetermined spot north of their village, to meet up with The Wolfpack and that was all that would be revealed.   Garreth of course declined, as he had his kids to think about and could not risk their lives, as Andred was part of the Pendragon Rebellion, and in the day and age they lived in, supporting them would be a costly mistake for people like them, even after telling Garreth that it was not dangerous and they need only be taken to the shoreline and the fisherman could leave, and in return would be rewarded with a large enough sack of money that the family could live humbly off of for years to come, started to   Elyan and Elaine awed at the idea of being able to help out with the rebellion, not to mention the reward, they ran downstairs and begged their father to let them help him and to do this, it was exactly like out of the stories their father had told them, so why wouldn’t they want to partake in this, soon after their father, for his children accepted Andred’s offer, but on the condition that Elyan and Elaine would stay back home while he did this.   After many attempts at begging and pleading to come, the twins finally gave up and sulked back to bed, Garreth, thinking he had won over his children, let Andred know he would be ready to go the next night.
The Mission
After setting sail in the dark of night, aboard Garreth’s large fishing boat, it should not have been a surprise when Elyan and Elaine appeared, hiding away on the ship before departing, as how could they leave their father to go on this adventure without them, they had of course done everything together, at the dismay of their father, he finally gave up on trying to get them to go home, and continued to set off for what seems to be hours.   After what seemed like hours, Andred suddenly alerted Garreth that their destination was just ahead, a single torch could be seen a head, and just as they were approaching the shoreline Andred and his group started drawing their swords in panic as a lone figure holding a torch threw what appeared to appeared to be a metal wolf head onto the boat, the same design of helmets used by the knights who they were to meet in secret.   The figure ahead of them reveals herself to the crew, and is none other than Morgan Le Fay, the court magician of Mordred. What seems like a lifetime of Andred and Morgan talking, Garreth manages to sneak to the back of the ship and warns his children to stay hidden and don’t come out no matter what.   Garreth feels a shaking on the boat, as he turns around, he notices Morgan somehow made her way onto the boat, and the knights begin to try and overpower her, and in a brief moment before his world shatters he thinks they stand a chance, but Morgan was too strong and called upon a magic he’s never seen as what appears to Garreth as thick javelins pierce into every knight, impaling them into the boat.   Thinking of nothing else but his children he gets on his knees, water covering the bottom of the boat and slowly rising, he begs for his life, thinking of any excuse he could have to have her spare his life, and in turn his children’s, unknown to him that the magician was already well aware of the children on the boat, lets him know that she will spare his children, but that he won’t ever be able to see them again, as she raises her hand and launches another javelin through his chest, the last moments he saw were of Elyan charging at the magician, dagger in hand before darkness took him.   As their fathers life disappears in front of them, Elyan attempts to attack the magician, only to have her vanish from the boat and back onto land, and in an instant she stops Elyan in place with her magic, but after sensing a latent power from Elaine, unlike her brother, Morgan decided to spare her life, to see how the young girl would develop and potentially be of use to herself in the future, she decides its best to keep brother and sister together seeing as they seemed so close, she rose her hand into the air and in a brilliant flash of light the ship disappears from the seas, as the magician disappears from the area as well. The area where so much happened, completely silent.   Only Elaine remained conscious during the whole ordeal, frozen in place by fear, and after covering her eyes from the blinding light, she slowly opened them to find herself shipwrecked in an unknown sea, a place she would soon learn to call the Dreamlands.
Shipwrecked
For what seemed like years, Elaine lay on the large broken ship that was once their fathers, beside her, her brother, seemingly frozen in time had not budged since that night. At first she had tried to keep track of the days by watching the sun but soon lost track and just laid their lifeless, for some reason her body had no need for food anymore, so she never felt the pains of hunger or thirst.   Occasionally she would do something as simple as tracing her finger in the sky to pass time, and she would feel what appeared to be the air flowing around her fingers, she brushed the experience off as something to do with the area she was in, but eventually she found she could control the wind, and eventually the water itself.   Preoccupying her time with watching her brother, and learning how to control what she considered her father’s parting gift to her. She was so wrapped up in what she was doing, she never noticed a large ship sail next to her, people calling to her from the ship as someone dropped down and helped Elaine up to the boat before going back for her brother.
Arrival
Mistaking her saviors for elves she soon found out that they were a race known as the Baharnans, they barely spoke to her and would often have someone watch them and after a week of sailing, the crew on the ship slowly warmed up to Elaine.   They eventually made it back to a large city one of the Baharnans had referred to it as Baharna to Elaine and that it was their home. They had told Elaine to go visit one of the elders who may know how to heal her brother Elyan.   After doing so she found out that he was trapped inside his dream, something Morgan had done to him had left him in permanent dreamlike state, and after weeks of pleading to the elder for help in teaching her how to fix her borther and earning the trust of the Baharnans, the elder advised her they would teach her how to save her brother.   Elaine had a new goal to accomplish, and somehow she was able to pick up on the magic faster than the elder had figured, and after 5 months of constant training in controlling Dream magic she was able to bring Elyan back from what seemed like an eternal slumber.   With the twins now reunited they realized they had nothing to really live for, no goals, they realized it may be impossible for them to come back home, and so they offered their service to the Baharnans and with their training in fishing and navigating they were able to be valuable assets, and even learned quite a bit. Elyan soon took it upon himself to train himself, and learn to fight, so that he never had to feel as helpless as he did that night their lives changed forever.
Departure
After more than a year in service to the Baharnans, Elyan and Elaine through constant training, both became extremely proficient in their respective abilities, Elyan in combat and Elaine in her magic. Eventually they had heard word of a beast roaming the lands of Japan, apparently the beast was from a land known as Albion, and clad in black armor and wielding an absurdly large sword he tore through his opponents in a brutal horrifying way.   Elaine, disturbed to hear of such a beast, but felt an urgency to seek it out, and see if they were perhaps human, and more importantly, they were from Albion, their home.   Elyan on the other hand, being reminded of all the stories their father had told him of the knights, knew the beast, as everyone was referring to was most likely the leader of the The Wolfpack, who had been known throughout Albion for his terrifying combat and lack of empathy on the battlefield.   Together the twins decided they would speak to the Baharnans and be relieved of their work so that they could search the lands for this rumor, as it could be the only way to come back to their country.   The Baharnans were reluctant to let the twins go on their own as they were very valuable assets for them, and though they may never let them know, thought of them as family over the past couple years they’ve been together.   Eventually they sent them off on their way to seek out this rumor, providing them with one of their best ships and letting them know they were welcome back anytime.   After they gave their farewells to who the twins also thought of as a second family, they left to sail the seas to Japan in order to track a lead on the knight from Albion.
