Beloved Pet Endō Shiromaro (a.k.a. 遠藤 白丸)
Summary
The loyal pet dog of former
Castle Lord Endō Morikazu. A bright, optimistic young noble, Morikazu commissioned
Gujō Hachiman Castle and moved in immediately with his wife, child, and beloved Shiromaro. Unfortunately, their stay in the fortress lasted for only a decade before Morikazu and his wife fell ill and passed away, taking the Endō name and clan with them.
Shiromaro was left alone, abandoned in Gujō Hachiman Castle. She was a good dog, and kept many looters and opportunists out of the castle grounds with her fierce bark and sometimes bite. The years rolled by as Shiromaro waited for her beloved master to return. It was hard for her to measure just how much time had passed, but at some point, the castle seemed to "wake up" around her. Having been abandoned for a hundred years, it had become a yōkai and was determined to exact revenge against the humans who had abandoned it.
Only with the intervention of a friendly wandering "Buddha" and Shiromaro's own ascension to Inugami was the disaster quelled. Nobody died in the jaws of a brutish monster castle, and the loyal guard dog was free to resume her duties. Now that the castle was a
yōkai, it could be safely bound within a leaf-shaped charm the Buddha gave to Shiromaro. She could journey the world herself, and maybe find her missing master, all the while taking her guarded sanctum along on her person.
Perhaps Shiromaro was too young to understand her master's death at the time, or perhaps she's simply in denial. Regardless, she's utterly convinced that he's still out there somewhere, maybe in need of a friendly companion to help him through hard times. There aren't many clues to help in her search, but the big
Hashinara Clan seems like a logical place to start.
