Hound of Tindalos
Creatures Beyond Time
Summary
Relentless horrors which exist outside of realms we understand. If most creatures reside on the "curves" of time, then the Hounds of Tindalos can be said to live within the "angles." Any time an individual alters the flow of time in some way, whether through magic or science, they risk being detected by one of these monsters. Once it has the scent of its prey, a Hound will never stop hunting them through time until either it or its target is dead. They accomplish this by moving through corners: anywhere three planes intersect at a sharp-enough angle. The Hounds can apparently move between such spaces without restriction of time or space and can somehow sense when their prey is near one. Very little else is known about the Hounds of Tindalos. Scholars, particularly those of the Dreamlands, have attempted to study them in the past. Any work on the Hounds' nature, however, is always cut tragically and brutally short. It could be that merely becoming aware of them, like the King in Yellow, draws their attention. Some have suggested that the Hounds are like antibodies within the temporal blood stream, hunting down anomalies which would damage the integrity of time. They might also serve as "time police" to an impossibly powerful, distant master at the end of everything with an investment in keeping the timeline straight. Or, perhaps, they are merely animals; a biological oddity which evolved to take advantage of an extremely esoteric niche. The Hounds themselves are so alien in thought and singular of purpose that the true answer remains ever unclear.
