(a.k.a. 巨岩童子)
Summary
A monstrous, rocky red oni often spotted in Yamato and surrounding provinces. It's an old adage that, as an oni's size increases, its intelligence and civility decrease in turn. This doesn't seem to entirely be the case with Kyogan-dōji. Giant though he is, he's never been seen actually harming humans. He's more of a nuisance in the region, thanks to his strange behavior. One might even call him something like a local cryptid.
Sometimes, in the mountains of Yamato, a hapless human will come back to their home only to find that it's no longer there. Worse, others have woken up in a house set down miles away from where it started. These strange events are Kyogan-dōji's doing. For reasons few understand, he has a habit of picking up human structures, seemingly at random, and just moving them somewhere else. The new location always seems to be more of an inconvenience than a danger to the occupant, but it's still an inconvenience as big as the giant who causes it.
Although he doesn't speak, some few souls have managed to speak to Kyogan-dōji through more supernatural means. If contacted through magic or telepathy, he doesn't mind answering questions. According to the giant himself, he's the last remnant of an ancient duty; a group tasked to keep sacred ground clear. In modern times, nobody knows exactly which ground is sacred or why. None except Kyogan-dōji, who carefully moves any human structure built upon it somewhere else.
So far, his strange behavior hasn't been enough of a reason for any heroes or local authorities to put him down. It might also be that few humans want to tangle with a twenty-foot tall, spiky rock demon unless the need is really dire.
