Miwa-myōjin

Death Draped in Red Silks

A sprawling shrine to the Japanese Goddess of Death, Izanami-no-Mikoto. Miwa-myōjin lurks under the northern hills of Yamato Province, its veneration of the Hashinara Clan's greatest enemy precluding it from public operation. Ryūzaki Sanosuke ordered the construction of this unholy temple. He and his adviser, Trivia, hired Sumisaki Hisae, an elder Kitsune who herself rose from Yomi to serve as its high priestess.   Now decorated to Hisae's tastes, Miwa-myōjin resembles a boudoir draped in red silk and plush pillows more than a traditional shrine. The underground halls are well-lit by lanterns ensconced in skulls and great temple structures rise up to the very peak of its cavernous covering. The astounding craftsmanship that went into such a complex goes largely unappreciated. Beyond Hisae herself, few know a grand shrine to Izanami lurks beneath Yamato, and fewer still would seek it out to worship the Mother of the Damned. The power of death suffuses this land all the same, and those capable of such things find their necromantic spells curiously empowered while in Yamato.
