Summary
Mortals whose souls are particularly foul, tainted with greed, gluttony, and cruelty, are molded by the rotting hands of Izanami-no-Mikoto into a form more befitting their sins. A Jikininki is one of these. Rising from Yomi below like noxious yellow fumes, they wander the mortal world in unending hunger, striving to fill their empty forms with human flesh. This particularly putrid example releases fragrances so foul from its gaping mouth that those around it are driven to hunger, insanity, or death by the smell.
