Húli Jīng Tamamo-no-Mae (a.k.a. 玉藻前)

An ancient fox deity notorious as one of the Three Great Evil Yōkai of Japan. Tamamo-no-Mae's skills in magic, trickery, and seduction were legendary, and she delighted in using them to sow chaos among the powerful in Japan. Most famously, she once infiltrated the Imperial Court and won the ear of the Emperor of Japan himself, but was later ousted by Abe no Seimei. Tamamo was then sealed within a sacred stone deep beneath the foundation of a temple in Ise Province. This "killing stone" possessed an immense evil power of its own, and slew any who approached it. In this way, Tamamo was kept safely imprisoned for centuries until released by a wizard powerful enough to withstand the fury of the stone.
After being unwittingly released by Katsusada Shishauezaemon, she enjoyed some success in infiltrating the Hashinara Clan he commanded. Tamamo was already plotting her renewed rise to power, and maneuvered her way into the Imperial Capital once again. Here she was thwarted by Seimei once again, acting through the Daimyō she now served, Aotsuki Tsukamoto. Armed with a charm penned by the great onmyōji herself, he joined with Uesugi Kenshin and a team of other generals from their two clans to destroy Tamamo once her true form was revealed. She was caught by surprise and slaughtered before she could escape, but her soul was not recovered. Presumably, it now plots in Yomi alongside Izanami-no-Mikoto .
Though she originally began life as a minor fox spirit in Tianchao, Tamamo-no-Mae grew in power until she was semi-divine. Indeed, her spiritual strength was such that she was able to create several avatars, and these furthered her schemes in the human world even while she was sealed. Though her motivations were largely unknown, Tamamo's lust for power was legendary. If she were not stopped, presumably she would have continued her schemes until all of Japan was under her control as she manipulated events from the shadows behind the throne.
