Toba Himawari

The Dreaming Empress

(a.k.a. 鳥羽 向日葵)

Summary

Empress Go-Toba is thought to be long deceased, her reign having ended with the dawning 13th century of Japanese history. Her presence in the Dreamlands, however, indicates that perhaps she is sealed away somewhere, dreaming, in a situation similar to Empress Genmei's. Or, perhaps, it's merely a result of the strange dilation of time that sometimes occurs between dreams and the waking world.   As a common citizen of Celephaïs, Toba no longer holds the powerful position she once did in life. In lieu of her title, she's taken on a simpler name, inspired by her favorite flower and a reminder to always face toward the light. Truthfully, Toba Himawari prefers life this way. A lack of Imperial duties has left her more time to focus on her true passions: swordcraft and swordsmanship. In life as well as dreams, Toba saw these as arts equal to calligraphy or music. Mastery of the rare Ophiucos, Lord of Swords style is but one of her masterful techniques, leading other Dreamers to respect her as one of Celephaïs' greatest warriors.
