Expiration

A problem with potions, ingredients and other magical substances is that they, very often, have limited shelf life.
As a general rule, it can be assumed that any animal or plant parts will lose their magical potential before they start to decay.
It is also a known fact that "freely given" and "conquered" materials lose their magic potential much slower and thus also will keep fresh physically longer.
