Lightball

A special version of a cold fire Illumination spell. This spell is used to fix a source of light to a location other than the original place of appearance.

The light will disappear when one condition is met - the predetermined duration is over, the caster cuts the magical flow to that lightbulb intentionally or the caster has moved away more than 49 strides.
Until either of those conditions is met the bulb will maintain a slight drain on the caster's magical energy.

Effect

The spell evocates a ball of cold fire hovering above the hand of the caster. Now the caster can place the ball at any place he wants to, just by wiping or pouring the ball of his hand onto the new surface.

To a sufficiently trained caster there is an alteration of this spell available that allows throwing the ball at a target. Whether or not the ball hits depends on the throwing skills of the caster.

Side/Secondary Effects

The ball of cold fire will emit light in the equivalent of an oil lantern.

Think of a 25W lightbulb or 2W LED bulb.

Manifestation

The spell evokes a ball of cold fire that illuminates an area. That ball does not emit the light per se it is just the centre of the illumination effect. Thus the ball will not blind or be painful to look at, it is just a bit brighter than the illumination.

Gestures & Ritual

The caster has to turn up the palm of a hand and snip the fingers of this hand, ending the movement of all his fingers into a bowel-like shape in which the light ball will appear. He can then pour this light ball onto the surface he wants it on.
Simultaneously the formula needs to be spoken in such a manner that the last wor coincides with the finger's snip.

"The spell formula needs to be at least whispered but this will reduce the brightness of the light source. On the other hand, the maximum brightness is achieved when incanting the spell in a normal voice. There is a direct relationship between the volume of the voice and the brightness. When the spell is spoken below the sound intensity of the finger snap it will not work. This defines the upper and lower brightness of the spell's effect."
