Mage

One of the many revered professions that revolve around the use of magic and arguably one of, if not the most well know is that of the Mage.

Mages are associated with benevolent power, knowledge and wisdom but just as often with hubris, cruelty and terrible deeds.
While it is well to assume any given mage will be of the former group it can never be known for a fact, until it may be too late.
Thus the majority of the people treat mages respectful and mostly friendly. Because either it is deserved or who would want to annoy, worse anger somebody who can change you into a frog without breaking a sweat.

All those magic users who prefer a "scientific" approach to magic and have aquired their magical education from an academy or an acreditted Magister are called Mages. The various titles of Adeptus are associated with the Mages and their professions of which there are many. It is quite normal, almost expected that a Mage specializes in a specific field of magics. And as one can easily deduct, Mages are at the most times the unchallenged masters of said fields but consequently are less educated in other fields.

A "special" breed of Mage are those rare few who avoid to get sucked to deep into one field. There are Mages who actively strive for a generalistic education. They are the polymath of magics or at least they strive to be. They form a minority within the Mage community but often they are those seen in the "field" helping the people, solving problems and counceling the rulers. They are few but they are the ones who form the picture that most people have of Mages.
