Carribean/Boricua

The Caribbean is a term used for people who are of Caribbean descent. The term mainly applies to those who live in the Tropical Territory, also known as Isla Del Encanto by the locals. They chose the term Caribbean as it described who and what they are without adding extra words. Some other terms are Dragon dancer/Phoenix tribe. The term Boricua is also used often but isn't known as much as Caribbean, so when someone is outside their island and has to describe themselves, they often choose Caribbean because they don't want people "What the heck is Boricua?" but within their home island, they use Boricua

Common Dress code

Since the climate is usually hot, people will wear light clothing that mainly ranges from bright colors such as orange, yellow, red, and white. They even have their own category of fashion that they called Islander, which is self-explanatory. Bohemian style is also popular.

Coming of Age Rites

For girls at 15, they have a quinceanera which is basically a sweet 16 that's more of a big deal as it means a girl is becoming a woman. However, you aren't considered an official adult until you're 21, despite the drinking age being 18.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Natural beauty is preferred. Pink lips are also seen as more attractive, many do have naturally pink lips or will put on pink lipstick or lipgloss. You can't forget the curves, that's all I'm saying. Long hair is also seen as attractive by both men and women. As for guys, you can't really put a label on appearance, many women prefer gentle guys who deeply care about their family, but are also tough. Interracial couples are common as the people like variety. There's this theory that people are more attractive to those who resemble their parents, but if you look around, that theory can be easily disproven. There are quite a bit of german people there as well who either find partners in the area or go back to their hometown, find a partner, then return to the island.

Gender Ideals

Most Caribbeans prefer traditional gender roles of the wife staying home and taking care of the kids while the husband goes to work to support the family. Many may see this as controversial, but prior to belief, it's mostly the woman who insists on these roles, then men could care less and often do encourage their wives or daughters to make their own career choices. heck, some women will even judge you if you don't follow these roles, of course, many women do have jobs, and often have their kids there. It's not uncommon to go to a restaurant or beauty parlor and see a kid there. Another reason is that a good portion of the population lives in rural areas, where the nearest school can range from 30 minutes to 2 hours away, and the mothers would often resort to homeschooling their children as it was more convenient. Many times the children will accompany one of their parents to help out at their job and learn more about what they do.
