The Penumbral Belfry

When a delver leaves the Rift, they ring the bell three times for each of their fallen. Once for their family, once for their friends, and once for the gods. But when a delver enters the Rift, they ring the bell just once – for themselves.

Purpose / Function

The Penumbral Belfry acts as the absolute last point of civilization before entering the Rift of Twisting Stones . Beyond the Belfry there are no paths, only the ephemeral Brightdark. Delvers who set out from Voc Dhelboran all make a stop here before moving on.

History

The Penumbral Belfry was created by an unknown priest who wished to create a sanctuary just above the darkness of the Rift. Unfortunately, they died soon after completing it. The monastery fell into disuse until a group of delvers decided to refurbish it as a resting place before descending further. Little of the original furnishings remain, except for a large church bell.
