Iron Blood
Throughout the forests of the world, explorers and woodcutters will rarely happen upon one of the most prized resources in existence. It is known as Iron Blood, and finding even a few grams of this substance will grant it's discoverer wealth beyond their wildest dreams.
Most see it as a gift from the gods, though which god grants the gift is up for debate.
Iron Blood can be used for crafting, blacksmithing, goldsmithing, metalsmithing, and many other kinds of crafting professions. When added to the raw materials, the crafter can work with it as they normally would. However, once the creation is dipped into salt water, it becomes virtually indestructible, while maintaining the properties of the host material. Clothing retains it's cloth properties, but no blade can pierce it, (damage can still happen to the wearer, but no damage will be done to the clothing). Blades that are sharpened before being submerged in salt water, will never lose their edge. Gems become indestructible and gain the glowing properties of the Iron Blood, making jewelry crafted with the substance, infinitely more valuable.
Properties
Material Characteristics
Iron Blood is the sap from a tree that has been affected by the phenomenon which is currently not understood. The tree that has been affected will be killed by the changed sap. The sticky, slow flowing sap will burst through the base of the afected tree, forming bulbous growths on the outside of the tree.
Life & Expiration
Iron Blood will slowly deteriorate over the course of a couple months as it crystallizes and looses it's special properties. If found early, Iron Blood can be preserved for years if stored in airtight containers. However, if it comes into contact with salt water, it will become useless as a reagent, and the owner will be left with a useless, albiet valuable formation of sap.
