Secret Inscription XII

In the temple of Juno Regina in the Eyrie, the party discovered another inscription, including a stela with a letter carved on it, under which was another historical vignette. After studying it and copying everything down, the party used magic to convert the "O" on the stela to a "U."
In the early days after its founding, the city of Rome flourished. The Hill Folk followed Romulus, and they named him King. And the Romans were ruled by kings for a century. Each king was elected by the will of the Roman people. After Romulus died, Numa was elected, followed by Tullus and Ancus. During each King's reign, tribes of Hill Folk in the surrounding areas were conquered, adding to the territory and population of Rome, so that for 100 miles in all directions, the Kingdom of Rome dominated. But then the Old Ones, who had built a great civilization in the north, arrived with an army far larger than any Rome had ever mustered. However, rather than attacking, the Old Ones made an offer: they would teach the Romans engineering, civics, and the arcane arts, in exchange for Rome bending knee. Ancus, who was cowardly and feared the power of the Old Ones, agreed, and lost his throne to Tynnicus Norixius.
