Session 54 - Snakes and Fire

General Summary

Having renewed our resources with the magic of the titan's hourglass, we pushed onward through the next colored portal, determined to bring down the magical walls that barred us from venturing deeper into Kathend Irthos and finding Maagog.   The purple portal brought us to a strange temple-like room, clearly designed for the worship of one of the serpent-like titans. The long room was lined with massive statues rising from shallow pools of water, that looked at first like eggs but on closer examination turned out to be gigantic snake heads. A massive Yuan-Ti stood at a raised alter, while a number of underlings stood below guarding it. As we began to press forward, the yuan-ti used some kind of incantation to summon a gigantic cobra-like creature that burst forth from the stone wall behind it. I must confess I spent much of the battle hiding behind my shield but did see Tertia land the killing blow on the giant monstrosity before rushing forward with the others to bringing down the yuan-ti abomination.   While we took some time to examine the room and douse the magical flame that was linked to the barriers in the main room, Hassan offered words of encouragement to all of us in a speech that was equal parts surprising and moving. It is hard to believe that when I had met him a few short months ago he was naught but a simple street performer eking out a meager living in Port Voltur. With all the growth since then, both in his magical powers and his character, it was less and less strange to imagine him as an Ageptian prince and leader of his people.   With time of the essence, we quickly moved on to the next portal.   The red portal took us to a labyrinth like room filled with blazing walls of fire. I tried to send Noctua ahead to reconnoiter for us, but his scouting mission was cut short by the appearance of a trio of strange elemental fire spirits led by a hulking, red-skinned creature wielding a giant scimitar. Another 'heated' battle ensued, with Tertia and Bandua boldly taking the lead and the rest of us pelting our enemies from afar with spell and arrow. Noctua acted as an impromptu one-bird fire brigade when Hassan and Tertia were literally set aflame by our fiery foes. We made quick work of our opponents, though with many burns and scorch marks to show for it.   We hurriedly found and doused the red brazier, and then lost no time in moving on to the last of the colored portals.   The black portal brought us to a sepulture like room, in which a stone coffin on a raised dais stood between us and the brazier we sought to douse. As we moved forward in the room, we heard the slow scraping of stone on stone, as the lid of the coffin slid off and something rose from its depths...
