The Conflict
Prelude
Before the Holy Grail Wars, the Holy Grail itself was an item that helped maintain balance across the world of Tynaria. However, after an act of hijacking by some Seredena mages in charge of powering the Grail, the item was given a sort of chaotic sentience. In the year 350, after the hijacking and death of all the mages powering the Grail, it was made so that only the strong would be allowed to use the Grail's wish-granting abilities. As such, it would select a number of factions to assemble a team of warriors to fight each other to the death.
From then on, the Holy Grail War would occur every 50 years, as that's when the Grail reappears in another area. If the selected factions refuse to fight each other, the Grail may end up releasing a pulse of chaotic magical energy that could cause major issues across the world. Even so, the factions still fight because different factions have different hopes and wishes to accomplish and the Grail may be the key to acquiring said wishes.
The current Holy Grail war takes place in the year 500. The participating factions are: The Kingdom of Bukatelia, the Nation of Seredena, the Kingdom of Norvania, and the Nation of Lekroné.
All selected factions must assemble a large team of warriors to fight against all other factions. These warriors can not just be random people though. In order to be qualified as an actual participant in the Grail War, they must go through an analysis ritual to see if the Grail accepts them as a worthy warrior. If they are rejected by the Grail, they are forbidden from interfering in any battles between Grail War participants. Doing so will cause them to be cursed for death. If the Grail accepts a participant, they are marked as a Grail Warrior and will be added to the faction's team roster.
A faction loses the war once all of their participating warriors are killed off and/or if both of the faction's main servants are defeated. The last faction that still has their team standing is the faction that not only wins the war, but also wins the Holy Grail's wish-granting ability.
When participating in the war, a set of
11 rules must be followed. Breaking any of these rules could lead to disqualification and even being cursed upon by the Grail.
Historical Significance
Ever since the first Grail War that occurred in the year 350, a new war begins every 50 years. Different factions are selected every war, but all conditions are the same.
