The Midas Guild
Structure
The Midas Guild is separated into 3 layers with Midas himself being at the top
- Nobility: Highest ranking members. Nobles have the most amount of power and usually the highest amount of wealth. They put great pressure on those below them to make sure that business is well, and that money is coming in. While a couple nobles do have knowledge in alchemy, most of them are much more focused on business management.
- Named Alchemists: Mid-ranking members. These alchemists are usually very well educated and quite skilled in their craft. Whether it's standard medicines or even expensive potions, those who have the title of "named alchemist" usually have some amount of prestige towards them. To become a true alchemist, you usually either need to have an education, or you can try to buy/bribe your way into the role. True named alchemists are also the ones that go out on expeditions to collect rare ingrediants. Despite the stark difference between the two roles, nobles are known to talk-down against alchemists.
- Commoners: The commoners are the lowest ranking members and usually consist of merchants and pharmacists. They range in skill and prestige, with some being more well-read than others. To make sure that they don't become exploited to the point of human rights abuse, they do have a representative group of people that make sure that workers have proper rights and benefits.
Culture
Members of the Midas Guild are expected to work hard and to never bring the family down. Nobles must be money-smart, named alchemists must be alchemically smart, and the commoners must be business smart. Cutting corners, taking too many days off, or exhibiting any sort of negative work ethic is highly looked down upon, with threats from higher-ups being sent towards them.
Assets
The Midas Guild has plenty of members in store. They also have plenty of potions, medicines, and ingredients for potions and medicines.
History
The Midas Guild was founded by a drow entrepreneur and alchemist simply known as "Midas." After witnessing Bukatelia lose the 2nd Holy Grail War in 401, he realized that the economy would take a plummet as northern Bukatelia was annexed by Seredena. Midas formed the guild with several alchemy graduates with the idea of selling medicines and potions to the public. After a year of fund-gathering and resource collection, the beginnings of the business would open to the public and be known as "Midas' Apothecary."
Business was surprisingly well, as potions and medicines were frequently needed to support the struggling workers of Northern Bukatelia. As years went on, more and more people began to join the business. The business would eventually become a city-wide guild in the year 443. Business was rising, and so was the internal animosity.
The three hierarchal roles of the Midas Guild were formed sometime after achieving guild status. Internal animosity between the nobles, the named alchemists, and the commoners would inevitably rise. Midas himself, thanks to his long life, knowledge in alchemy, and large amounts of accumulated wealth, began to exhibit attitudes of tyranny against many of the guild members. He had appointed the nobles to do most of the management work, only leading to more internal conflict. As such, many members of each role really only interact within each role and only ever talk to the other role members when absolutely necessary.
