Session 31

General Summary

Party starts off at the barracks discussing what to do. Ella decides to remain behind with Carter to make sure no-one sneaks up behind the party. Party heads out to explore rest of Tynmor, planning on heading first to the well where Wisk saw the goat and guard corpse talking. They look down the street and can see forms shambling around. As they pass the townhall they see the shutters are sealed with strange magic and there are people screaming inside. The party approaches the hall and find the entrance sealed with an immense stone beam. Inside people are shouting and screaming about a fire and that they can't get out. The party help Felix to lift the beam, he gets close but can't quite get it out of its restraints. Suddenly bolts hit the door, scattering off of Wisk's armour. They've been lured into an ambush. The party line up for battle, the arrowfire seems to be coming from a partially destroyed house on the street opposite. A wererat assassin drops down from the building, charges, and is joined by large Babau summoned from a hidden summoning circle. The wererat is quickly dispatched by Wisk. Wisk and Felix head off the demon whilst Helgret attempts to get up to the roof of the burning town hall to get a better vantage point. Lorelei cast Wall of Thorns to provide cover for the people inside the building the party were hoping to save and Marti cast reduce on the oak beam which then became small enough to fall out from its fittings and onto the ground. It then took minimum effort to open up the door and let the people out. They ran out into the night making a beeline along the length of the Wall of Thorns. Marti then wildshaped and started heading to the building.
The fight continued, with Wisk delivering the final blow to the Babau and heading into the house via a ground floor window. Marti meanwhile, climbed up and through a second storey window, finding herself face to face with a group of Order Crossbowman and savaged one, bodily throwing him through a section of wall. It was at this point that zombies started moving down into the street. Lorelei cast invisibility on herself and headed around the side of the building, looking for an entrance. Helgret, having found a position on the Town Hall roof to snipe from, begins to engage the archers and crossbowman in the House, as well as firing on some of the zombies heading down the street towards Felix. Felix uses his lightning lure to pull an archer from his sniper nest in the house and onto the ground. A three way fight between the archer, Felix and a group of zombies begins in the streets outside the house.

Inside the house, Marti moves in on the archers, the two remaining crossbowman lose their nerve and call for a retreat yelling to their commander and the archers that the position was overrun. Both of them leapt from the house onto the nearby back street, unfortunately drawing the attention of a group of zombies. Marti is joined by Wisk and they both move to intercept the commander, a woman the group was ambushed by before called Niamh. Marti attacks the remaining archer and Wisk slashes at Niamh who vanishes in a puff of dust. The archer, hearing the screams of the crossbowmen outside as the zombies fall upon them, and seeing the rest of his team either get pulled out or vanishing decides to make a run for it. He jumps down a hole in the floor to the ground floor, taking hits from Wisk and Marti and twisting his ankle in the fall. He manages to make it to the open front door just as an invisible Lorelei reaches it. Not seeing her he tries to make a run for it and she slams the door in his face so hard that he is knocked unconcious. Lorelei then hogties him.
Felix continues fighting the zombies and remaining archer - the latter of which is trying to run - with long range support from Helgret. Eventually between the two of them they finish of the Archer and Zombies.

Meanwhile, Marti, following the scent of decay that seemed to be emanating from Niamh, heads out of the house and down a street to the north, with Wisk following behind. She roars a warning to the rest of the party and Wisk, following her direction heads southwest from their position. He suddenly notices Niamh amongst the reeds of a pond, trying to lay low and fires off two eldritch blasts at her, killing her. Before he can investigate the body, Marti's roar has attracted some additional attention. Two Dybbuk's converge on her position, extricating themselves from the pile of corpses they were feeding in. One possessing a goat and the other a Tynmor townguard. The goat contorts its body into a bipedal form, turning its front hooves into long claws. The guardsman spins its torso 180 to meet her and stretches out its jaw so far that it warps and tears the flesh of its face. This display, understandably, spoops Marti.
The party converge on Marti's position, each taking shots at the creatures, with Wisk being knocked prone at one point by the demonic goat. Eventually the undead 'shells' of the Dybbuk become too damaged to be useful and the true creatures emerge from the broken bodies - strange ethereal jellyfish. The first dybbuk to emerge lashes out at Wisk, weakening him, before being cut down and 'popped' leaving no remains. The last Dybbuk makes a half hearted attempt to bargain for its life before the attack recommences and Helgret gets the final blow, a mighty unarmed chop that carves the incorporeal body in two. Both sections fall to the ground and Helgret begins scooping bits up - as is her wont.

The party begin the process of sorting through the bodies, finding a number of arrows and bolts from the archers / crossbowmen, a +1 shortsword and a hand crossbow from the wererat, and a number of Order masks and robes (the latter will need some repairs). Wisk also studies the faces of Niamh and the captured archer for future use. Wisk then brings Niamh's body to the pyre in the centre of town to be burnt.
