Session 9

General Summary

The gang get a few more tidbits of info from Breeyap before tying him up and leaving him to the elements.  Q: Are there any secret entrances? A: There are two exits other than the main one. One leads into the main camp area (tiny squeezing one), the other is fast flowing rapids heading out of the area.   The party sets off with Caithaken at the lead who alerts them when they reach areas the goblins frequent. Dusk falls as they formulate a plan of attack. Idea is for Xhada to swim upstream with three spools of rope tied together and tie it off at a safe place. Felix would then tie it off at the other end and the rest of the party would make their way up the rapids connected to a rope. Xhada made her way upstream, finding an old rope bridge supported by rotting wooden struts and secured the rope to a nearby rock and held on herself. The three gnomes struggled upstream but eventually made it after some dicey moments being buffeted along the rope by the powerful currents, Helgret made it up with little trouble and Felix eventually followed, bringing the rope with him having to be helped up after a not-so-graceful slip whilst trying to climb out of the rapids. Whilst the rest of the party made it over to her position one by one, Xhada kept an ear out and heard a fight amongst the goblins break out down an eastern tunnel and recommended that the party cross the bridge and proceed through the western tunnels. The party agreed and they moved quietly as they could along the western tunnel until they saw light ahead. Thinking quickly, Gnemo minor illusioned an extra piece of tunnel wall onto a corner and moved Caithaken into the illusory wall to scout ahead. He saw an opulent (by goblins standards) room with a lounge, a bed and a bathtub filled with soapy water and a large hairy bugbear singing to himself out of tune under heavy guard.   Surmising this to be the goblin's leader Grizzt, the party retreated back down the tunnel and put together a plan. First they sabotage the bridge, so that any potential reinforcements would fall into the rapids, then they would send a illusory human fighter into the goblin leaders lair to waste any prepared attacks by the leader's guards and then charge in to wipe them out whilst they were confused about the fake fighter. Xhada was sent to sabotage the bridge but ended up cutting too many of the bridges supports on one side and ended up loudly destroying the bridge. Having now lost the element of surprise, the party charged back down the western tunnel again toward Grizzt's lair, remembering to send in the illusory guard first which, as predicted, wasted the first volley from Grizzt's guards. The fight then swung heavily in favour of the party with the goblin guards all falling in quick succession leaving only Grizzt in a desparate fight for survival. After a particularly vicious hit from Felix, Grizzt cried out for help from 'the Crawler' and resumed the fight, taking a few vicious retaliatory swings at the paladin. A few seconds passed before Xhada noticed a ripple in the air above her which then moved over to Emmylou. From the strange rippling, a huge blue and white spider erupted and sunk its fangs into Emmylou's arm. Whilst the bite and venom hurt like hell, Emmylou was able to overcome the majority of its effects and was able to heal herself more or less fully. Gnemo and Ella fired off a chromatic orb and a flaming sphere respectively causing massive damage to the spider and blowing off one of its legs just as Felix finished off Grizzt with a mighty smite from his warhammer. The spider, almost dead, lunged forward at the nearby Gnemo and sunk its fangs into his chest and pumped its venom into him. The old gnome took one last look towards his wife before the poison coursing through his veins overcame him, and he seized up dead. The spider then phased away and escaped.   In shock, the group hear a voice from the darkened room to the south, "He-hello? Is anybody there?"
