Chevaliers

The most basic unit of the Order of the Gauntlet, This small squad of chevals is used for eliminating necromancers as fledgling as the very members of the squad.

For smaller branches of the Order, this is usually the only option available. The formation assumes the basic zombies/skeletons under the necromancer's control are not too much of a threat, and focuses on eliminating the necromancer quickly. Without a necromancer guiding their tactics, the mindlessness of these undead can be exploited heavily.

Versus a necromancer capable of anything more intelligent, such as ghouls, sending these knights would be considered a suicide mission, literally: A desperate attempt to kill the necromancer before they could react followed by being ripped apart by the now freed ghouls. They just don't have the support roles present in higher ranks that would properly dispose these more experience necromancers AND their minions.

Composition

Manpower

about 5 chevals

Equipment

General traveling equipment, sync bracelets

Weaponry

Disruption blades and entangling whips

Structure

simple squad

Tactics

Sending out one knight as a scout, the squad then takes up favorable positions and performs a surgical strike on their target using the sync bracelets.   The squad will avoid direct encounters. In the case the squad is caught off guard, or a fight is not immediately in their favor after the inital ambush, the squad will retreat at all costs using their athletic training to outrun their opponents.

Training

With an understanding that most necromancers are just as unpredictable and adaptable as any regular wizard, Knights of the Order focus a great amount of their training in all aspects of their body and mind. A weakness anywhere is something a necromancer can exploit to a ruthless degree, fireballs for the clumsy knight, illusions for the dull, etc. etc. A cheval usually spends about 2 years training overcoming their weaknesses. Then another year learning general tactics and fighting styles to specifically eliminate necromancers.   For maintenance training, a cheval will, for about an hour, work on their current weakest aspect such as lifting weights or playing a game of chess. Any other training is more freeform such as dueling fellow knights or hunting for food.

Logistics

Upkeep

It costs about 5gp a day to properly sustain these men over the long term. Most of it maintaining the magic weapons in their arsenal.

Recruitment

The only major requirement to be a knight of the gauntlet is to be opposed to necromantic school of magic and its creation. To be apart of these squads, however, does require the applicant to not have a severe deficiency (i.e. impaired vision or a stutter can be enough grounds to deny application).
