Session 7: A Sigh of Relief Report

General Summary

With the local necromancer slew, the party was able to focus back on their original task: save Gundren and seek his mysterious birthright. Of course, there was the case of bodies they needed to bury. Religion had come up, and the party started to notice strange things. It seemed that the village did not have a strong respect for burying the dead, that even went as far as the sister being a bit strange about it. However, their attention would soon turn back to the tavern. That morning, the party realized another party of adventurers was lodging at their own tavern! They would soon find out their identities: Tate the Dragonborn warrior, Maverick the aarakocra wizard, Kalamazoo the elf sorceror, and Emma the human rogue. Although, only Kalamazoo was up for much chatting, they learned that Tate is actually the adopted son of Gundren and after so much time missing they've come to rescue him. They also learned of a Druid in Cragmaw that could be a great help to finding many things in the island, hence why this party knew where cragmaw is. The only obstacle would be the downpour, which would make traveling treacherous. With that, the party decided to join them, having decided they were going that way too. One would think nothing could stop a party of 8 adventurers, but they would soon be proven wrong. They would be ambushed by ogre... well ambush was not exactly what happened when the entire group was ready. However, the ogre would take a defensive stance and not attempt to attack confounding the group. Moments later, arrows will come down and strike the weak points in the armor of both Tate and Fluffy, downing the former and nearly doing so to the latter. They would dispatch the ogre afterward, but now they realized they WERE ambushed as the arrows seemingly impaled them from nowhere. It turned out, a squad of hobgoblins had set up a sniper's nest 500 ft from their location to pelt them while the ogre distracted them. It wasn't that difficult to incapacitate them, but the losses were severe. Tate and Maverick lie dead, slain in the confusion. As well as Emma deserting, Kalamazoo was forced to say goodbye to the party as nothing tied her to this rescue mission anymore. A Pyrrhic victory for sure, who would tell Gundren?
