Baroness ~ A Member of Nobility
The ruling seat over all of Uisgern Province, granted by the fourth Emperor, Calder Bane. The position cannot be filled by just any Baroness. That particular position must be inherited through one's maternal line, given from Mother to Daughter, or a niece if a woman has no daughter.
In other Provinces, the title of "Baroness" is granted only by the Emperor. In this case, the title is usually accompanied by the gift of land. Alternatively, a Baroness title is granted to a woman when she marries a Baron, or bestowed upon a newly minted Baron's wife.
The title may be granted by an Emperor in reward for service to the Empire, for example to a member of the Guard who may have distinguished herself in battle defending the Empire, or to a Spy of renown. Historically, the title has been bestowed in reward for saving an Emperor's life, as well as a reward to a long-time member of the Emporer's household staff in thanks for their lifetime of service.
Requirements
If bestowed upon a woman from the Emperor, there are no requirements.
The title may also be bestowed upon a woman who marries a Baron, or when a woman's husband is given the rank of Baron.
In Uisgern, the title is inherited, but it is considered necessary to attend the College of Kinderven to learn how to govern the city, province, and people.
Duties
The Baroness of Uisgern Province is bound by tradition to always lead her people toward progress, specifically the sort that will improve the lives of Uisgernians (pronounced whis-gern-eeans).
She is also historically the Patron of the College of Kinderven.
