Gloinite (Glow-in-ite)

Gloinite can be found where lightning has struck the ground.  While it is usually found smaller than the palm of your hand, larger chunks and shards are known to exist.    Found primarily by adventurers, Glonite is sometimes known as the Stone of Damocles, since Damocles is the God of Exploration and Protector of Adventurers.   Larger pieces are worth more and specimens can be carved and shaped. Once set to the flame, the stone will change color, but allowed to cool, the stone will stay whatever hue it was when removed from heat.   The Legend of Sarcot tells us that the First Emperor discovered a deep blue piece of Gloinite shaped like his fist, high in the Rorchur Mountains. He took this as a sign of both Damocles' favor and of Hayvard's favor. Since Hayvard was the God of War, Sarcot proceeded to bring the warring tribes together under one banner. His own. He declared himself Emperor and passed a law that only the Emperor, and those who ruled after him, were permitted to own a blue Gloinite.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Gloinite is semi-transparent, weighs far less than expected, and produces flat, crystalline sides. Despite the fact that it looks like slightly-tinted glass, the edges are not usually sharp.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Gloinite is usually warm to the touch, unless it is still on the surface in the cold mountains. But generally, it is warmer than the casual observer might expect.  Once, in a fit of misunderstanding by a frightened Trader, a piece of Gloinite was tossed into a fire and proclaimed a "demon stone". To the shock of all present, the Glonite began to ...well...glow. It changed colors from an amber whiskey hue to orange, to red, to blue; by the time it was flicked out of the flames with a stick, it was deep purple. It was allowed to cool naturally and observed to determine if the stone would change back to its original color. The stone stayed that same shade of deep purple.

Geology & Geography

Gloinite is found anywhere that lightning has struck the ground, but is discovered more often, and in larger deposits high in the Rorchur Mountains because lightning is attracted to tall things.

Type
Ore/Mineral
Odor
Gloinite has no smell apparent to humans.
Taste
An explorer licked a chunk of Gloinite once on a dare from a foolish friend. The explorer's eyes rolled back in his head and he lost consciousness. He never recovered. He died in a vegetative state.
Color
The color can be changed by heating the stone in flames. Once the color has been altered, it does not revert to its original hue.
Common State
It is commonly found as chunks, but has been known to exist in veins. The Gloinite found at higher elevations has fewer imperfections and better clarity. Gloinite can be found in chunks and shards of all sizes, commonly smaller than the palm of your hand
