The Sunken Altar of Evil: Game 22

General Summary

The Party dispatched Troglodyte guards, descended into the lower levels of the cultists lair, fought hidden shadow monsters, rescued prisoners from the cells of the doomed, and slew a high priest of the Reptile God in his altar of evil.

20: TROGLODYTES'S GUARDROOM

The Party slew the Troglodyte guards, which included the two guards in the outer guardroom and an inner room, which had six guards in a room with many fishbones scattered around the floor.

Second Level

The lower level is significantly different from the upper levels. The walls are generally irregular and winding. Timbers are still used as supports, but not necessarily at the neat 5’ intervals as the upper level. The tricking noise of the water is more pronounced and the smells are worse. The DM should continually remind the players of the water and the rank Troglodyte smell. The lower level also shows signs of a far more ancient temple and civilization with giant stone carvings and statues of a diversity of half-human, half-serpent beings, some with many heads. Their human faces were once exquisitely detailed, but ruined by the passage of time marring their expressions which range from contemplation to violent intensity and even erotic sexuality.

21 Muddy Passage

There is a mud cavern with two large columns supporting the roof in this large room and the floor is coated with mud. The Party cautiously used stepping stones to cross the room at normal speed. Two large statutes of headed dragons or snakes greeted the Party.

24 Chamber of the Shadowy Dead

The door to the room was swollen with moisture, but the Party was able to open it. The room was a long rectangle farther than could be seen because it was blocked by many columns spaced at regular intervals. The walls and columns are adorned with intricate carvings and reliefs, telling ancient stories of the half-human and half-serpent beings. The Party was repeatedly ambushed by shadow like monsters, but, as usual, the Party emerged victorious. Another failure of the DM to kill even a single party member.

25 Cells of the Doomed

The Party rescued a number of captured humans who had resisted the power of the reptile god to charm and turn them into cultists. They were awaiting their death, which would result in them being turned into zombies and/or become anatomy subjects. The four individuals include:
  1. Tana Carpenter, daughter of the carpenters from Orlane
  2. Maron Carpenter, Father of carpenter from Orlane
  3. Merchant Cloe de Menge, Fultonian merchant from Northern Fultar
  4. Gertile, a humble servant and priestess of Tya Nehru

26 Zombie Laboratory

This room included two dead corpses dug up from the cemetery, one dead peasant, pieces of body parts, including mostly Troglodytes, an operating table with Jess Carpenter (who is now undead yet tied to the table with a Troglodyte arm recently sewn on with puss), books on anatomy, necromancy, reptiles, and one book with many images of women with snake heads.

27 Altar of Evil

This is a long room whose walls are covered by stone bas reliefs of the familiar half-human and half-snake images, including many devouring and destroying humans, elves and dwarves, many of which are in various states of distress and horror, and engaging crude sexual acts with humans, elves and dwarves, many of which are in states of ecstasy and pain. Many of the bas reliefs retained their original colors. There are also scenes of warriors fighting valiantly; however, as the images proceed across the wall, they meet their ultimate painful end. The room had 15 zombies, and two human priests of the reptile god, which the Party slew in their unending religious persecution. Both humans were wearing chain male, a shield and mace with the head of snake.
