Coliari Magic

The shamans and other mages of the Houses on the Marsh practice an offshoot of Woldian Magic which stems from the same roots, but is invoked in different ways. Rather than using sheer force of mental concentration to maintain their spells, Coliari magicians are trained in a sort of ritual movement of a brass censer. By burning material components in this device, the Coliari mage can create a variety of spell effects that are generally easier to maintain than the magic of Woldian casters, and in some cases can even be left in a location far from their caster, maintained by the amount of fuel left in the censer.   The limitations on Coliari magic are monetary and magical. Firstly, the technique's reliance on material components means that it is generally more expensive to practice than Woldian magic. Secondly, Coliari magic has a lower skill ceiling than Woldian magic. Although a practitioner may grow to be quite powerful in terms of their connection to the arcane, the magnitude of magical power that is channeled can overwhelm and shatter the brass censer that is used as the primary implement of casting.
