The Ouv Isles

The Ouv Isles is truly a marvel to behold, I can say with confidence that I have never, and will never, find another place on Ultimus that could compare to here. Not only is the governmental structure completely different here, but so is the attitude and opinions on worldwide topics involving everyday life. In most place, if you were caught with stolen food then you would be punished severely, usually in the form of physical harm or hard labor, but here if the reason for the theft was due to low/no-income, or too many people went without food for too long, then the Isles would gather as a community the supplies and food needed to take care of their fellow community members. If you, like think, thought a community based on piracy would discriminate against the idea of kindness and instead turned their heads to the practice of theft then you, again like me, are a fool. The idea of that everyone looks after everyone else is so ingrained in this place that, even amongst my initial arrival, several residents took to show me the more unique parts of the Isles. For, you see, the excitement that came with new places was so familiar to these residents, that they all wanted for newcomers to feel welcomed and at a home away from home. I'd say if you ever have the chance to visit the Ouv Isles, that the people alone are well worth the trip, and the sights, food, and culture are a bonus to it all.

Government

The Ouv Isles is a rare and outstanding example of a matriarchal government system and is run by the eldest members of Armada.

Guilds and Factions

Armada

Armada is a powerful pirating group that controls and protects the Ouv Isles as well as many other small islands and coastal settlements throughout the world from rival pirates and greedy corporations.
Trading Factions
There are plenty of trading factions in the Isles covering a multitude of topics and crafts, and they often compete directly with each other over local businesses and upcoming organizations that meet in the ports.

Architecture

The architectural style most common in the Ouv Isles is that of the modern vernacular style, with a great use of wood, windows, and often even stilts to protect against monsoons are wood rot.

Natural Resources

While the Isles do have a local fishing and farming community, its most important natural resource is that of a rare material that can only be found in one of small source halfway across the world. This material is neither metal nor solid, it can be gas but is mostly liquid, and a small amount is made naturally over a long period of time in undisturbed underground hot springs. There is a name for it, but the word is so difficult to pronounce that many non-natives of the Isles simply refer to it as the 'Spirit of the Ocean'.

Real Life Pirates To Check Out

The Faroe Islands, Ireland, and other popular green islands are the source of inspiration for the design of the Ouv Isles. Faroese, the original language of the Faroe Islands, will be the base language of inspiration as well. But sources for learning the language are slim, luckily I did find a site run by volunteers in which you can send in a word or phrase and a random volunteer will be selected to then send back a video with a Faroese translation! This makes audio learning easy but I will still need to find literary ways to learn the language, or to at least translate what I need. A lot of the culture surrounding the Isles will differ from Island to Island to Coastland and will reference different cultural interpretations of the sea and piracy from real-world cultures.

Author's Notes

Phew! I've gotta post this tonight but when I awake from my slumber in the morning I'll be working on a lullaby common in the Isles as well as eventually coming back to this article to talk about how the Isles were founded and why it was decided that an infamous group of female pirates would be forever destined to protect it.
