A Comprehensive Overview of Alandor's History, Myths, and Legends
This book, while unnecessary lavish and filled with the author's (Landrich P. Landolf) own assumptions and ideas, does cover some of Alandor's history. The text, especially the parts regarding myths and religion, is interleaved with references to fictional folk tales and rumors.
During one event, the adventuring party The Moonshine Runners came across a copy. The book was well read, and had evident signs of wear. One of the most read sections was about the ancient god Gargaltrax, also known as The Undying Dread, or The Unyielding Death. He was worshipped by followers seeking power and immortality.
The text contains a transcript of a song, that tells the tale of Gargaltrax and acts as a warning for anyone seeking his power:
The Undying Dread sleeps in silence,
Trapped in limbo's endless cold,
Bound by ancient dragon magic,
And cursed to never grow old. But as the centuries have passed,
His power has not waned,
For the dread that fills his soul,
Is a fire that never fades. And when the stars align just right,
And the moon is full and bright,
His followers will call upon him,
To rise up once more and fight. The Undying Dread will be reborn,
His wrath a raging storm,
And all who dare to cross his path,
Will face his undying scorn. So heed this warning, noble kings,
And prepare your armies well,
For the Undying Dread is coming,
And he will not be felled.
