Monetary Units of Brynthia

Monetary Units of Brynthia, the Cal Condfederate, the Zalkonean Empire, and Crynthia

The coins listed here are all made in Brynthia and are used to service the city of Brynthia and the Zalkonean empire.   Before the Borez Empire broke up, the coins were in secondary circulation in the lands north of Brynthia, however, once Caladorne Empire broke up and the Cal Confederate formed, the coinage became their official coin in 1070 AC.   While not a member of the Zalkonean Empire, Crynthia has also adopted the coin as their currency due to its high level of security versus attempts to counterfeit the coin.   Kraylin uses Brynthian coinage as a secondary coinage.   Coinage prior to 1070 AC features usually only Emperor Zalkonea and a weeping beast on the reverse. After 1070, the obverse stayed the same with a tribute to the Emperor, however after 1070 AC, in accordance to Emperor Zalkonea's wish to integrate the Cal Confederate on his northern border, allowed that the reverse be chosen by the Cal Confederate.   Under Emperor Zalkonea's image on all coinage is the phrase "Where Honor and Nobility Preserve"   The Treasury of Brynthia uses secret processes to formulate all coinage. Most of the processes are believed to be magical in nature, meaning all coinage from Brynthia radiates light levels of magic. In the process, the coins are hardened for increased wear. They are also crafted in such a way that if any of part of the coin has any of its sides shaved, it will lose the magic. Additionally, the magic responds to established shalingra magics making it easier to detect counterfeit coins by glowing in various shades. Zar's glow pink, Triangles glow green, Quarters glow red, Draknels glow yellow, Bars glow blue, and Disc's and high glow orange.   The base unit is the golden Draknel which is nearly 100% gold. An established equivalent for today's standard is a Draknel would represent about $20 US Dollars.

Division of Coinage

10 iron Pieces = 1 copper Zar (copper piece) Zars have an integrated hole for ease of carrying on a string.
10 copper Zars = 1 silver Triangle (silver piece) Triangles are 3 sided coins with rounded edges and an integrated hole.
10 silver Triangles = 4 electrum Quarters (electrum piece) Quarters are 4 sided coins with rounded edges. They have been out of fashion for several decades and hard to find.
10 silver Triangles = 1 gold Draknel (gold piece) Draknels are solid gold coins, slightly smaller than a Quarter.
5 gold Draknels = 1 platinum Bar (platinum piece) Platinum pieces are twice as long as wide. They are exactly as long as two Draknels.
10 gold Draknels = 1 diamond Disc (diamond piece) Discs are specially crafted diamonds in the shape of a disc with a golden border. Inside the diamond is usually a holographic image in color.
30 gold Draknels = 1 sapphire Dragon Fang (fangs or teeth) Fangs appear as a tiny 1/2 inch fang made of sapphire. Fangs have a tiny hole at the base so they can be strung on a cord and are also magicked not to pinch or pierce the skin.
100 gold Draknels = 1 ruby Dragon Claw (claws) Claws appear as a tiny 1/2 inch curved claw made of ruby. Rubys do not have a hole. Like fangs, they are magicked to not pierce or pinch skin. Additionally, they have a powerful magic placed on them so that they cannot be lost or misplaced - i.e. they will not accidentally fall out of a pocket.
Though difficult to counterfeit, the coins are occasionally counterfeited through illusion and simple magic. The penalty for counterfeiting coins in mass in the Zalkonean Empire is beheading. The Cal Confederate has also recently adopted this practice.

I suggest separating the information into different sectors. It seems very intriguing however its all over the place without sectors

Thank you for the advice. If Ozzymandias can't listen to the Kingofkings, then he probably can't listen to anyone.

The Draknel is 100% gold. That's interesting, given as the United States government isn't even brave enough to use real copper in their coins. The coins in my world are just different sizes and thicknesses. Gold seems neat for a coin

Part of the monetary system is more for the storytelling aspect, far more so than for gaming purposes. As far as characters go, everything is simply in gold pieces for them. The Draknel breakdown was purely for world development as I have written a lot in the particular game world I run games in.   With regards to being 100%, that would be more along the lines of close to 100% similar to old gold coins in earlier civilizations.   My understanding on gold, while possibly or even probably wrong, is based on the following items. 1.) Gold and silver were used heavily in coins up to about 1900. World War II actually saw a lot of the gold of the world start being stored in vaults once countries realized the need to protect their gold. 2.) Gold and Silver were truly used as coins in Roman, Greek, and Byzantine times. 3.) Gold and Silver are truly star metals. The only gold and silver found on earth is within the top few miles of the crust where meteorites have deposited it. Being a fantasy world, the amount of deposited gold could be drastically different if stellar circumstances were different. (Side note: this is why I think having a gold standard is stupid. China now has most of the worlds gold by percentage (I may be mistaken on this also) and this would give them an unfair advantage if gold were the standard and something like 10-25% all the available gold has now been mined. As gold is now vital for electronics, it is now a needed resource and as such, subject ot being used up - further increasing its value. I digress.)
