The Cyrkransis (and the Kyofu)

The Cyrkranis, the collected name of the six wands, are the most powerful magical items ever crafted. For game purposes, these six wands were the major MacGuffin of the campaign for several years.   Their purpose was to be the final weapon and line of defense against the Thrage should all other options fail.   The Gods of War started their construction in 3209 BC, commissioning the Circle of Eight to fashion the wands. Each of the wands was grown from a single crystal and constructed carefully over the course of a century to be not only indestructible but to also have the singular ability to harness and channel great levels of magical energy.   Finished in 3122 BC, the Gods of War claimed the wands from the Circle of eight and then began the full enchantment of the wands over the next six years. The wands were finished in 3120 BC.   Each of the wands was connected to one of the great shafts, extradimensional shafts over a mile in diameter and sixteen miles wide buried deep underground. In the shafts, the magical energies to power the wands were slowly built up and stored. When the wand was activated, it would act as a conduit and channel all the energy from the shaft through the wand.   Once created, the gods attempted to store the wands safely. It was only after one of the wands surfaced and was used that the gods discovered that despite all safeguards, the wands tended to wander about the world. The leading thought is that this is due to the shafts not being fixed to a single location, as the shafts wander, so do the wands. It has been noted that the wands tend to migrate toward other powerful emanations of magic, though never toward each other. Keeping the wands locally together rarely lasted more than a few years.   The Purple Magician devised a way to track the wands, and in fact, this was why Darkwing the dragon killed the magician.   Before his death, the Purple Magician would aid various adventure groups in finding a given wand if he deemed their need great enough. At one time, he even gave a riddle to aid in finding several of the wands.
The life killer is in a desecrated temple called Tarjahkarmillik.
The fire maker can be found in the middle of the hottest of the three.
The water mover can be found in the city on top.
The earth quaker can be found near the stone dragon in a kingdom of sun-haters.
The cold maker can be found in the center of the other side.
The storm creator which must be found last can be found through the instrument which is different than all the rest.

And early fable of the wands best describes them and their base properties. This fable comes from the wizard and researcher Gartholomew around 730 BC.
Before the time of the Ancients, six wands were wrought forth from the bowels of the earth itself. These six wands were meant to be the ultimate achievements in magical warfare, being created by the Gods of War at the height of their grandeur. The first wand was crafted to form a slender straight rod of sapphire with the deepest hue of blue. It was known as Thunderhowler for it could control the very skies themselves while accurately hurling bolts of lightning miles away. The second wand, made of the clearest diamond, was known as Winter's Scourge for it would bring death to surrounding landscapes with a blizzard like nothing natural. This wand was used time and time again to turn the jungles of the tropics into expansive ice fields. The third wand, made of a blood red stone known as ruby, is known commonly as Ashmaker. This wand has been said to be the most powerful of the wands against many foes, for it can create vast amounts of fire as hot as the lifeblood of the earth itself. The fourth wand is the Earthwracker, made of a yellowish-brown gemstone called topaz by the dwarfs. It is this wand which is which can rip mountains out by their roots. This wand can destroy entire armies by pulverizing the ground beneath them to a fine dust. The fifth wand, made of a stone coined thryllic from the elves deep below, is simply known as Oceanfury. Thryllic possesses the color of the ocean itself as it is like glass but with a slight tinge of blue throughout. While almost powerless on land, this wand reigns supreme around immense bodies of water, thus proving that water is one of the most destructive forces in nature when moving in walls higher than the trees of a forest. The sixth wand, made of emerald, is the most powerful wand of the six while being the weakest of the six. Unless the lifeforce of the user is expended, the wand can only be used five times in a decade. It discharges a shaft of emerald-hued energy which will, as long as the wand is held in the general direction of the victim, will shatter the target's physical body beyond recognition. The killing force of this wand is unstoppable by any known power. Gods and mortals alike will fall before this wand. This destroyer of life is known appropriately as Lifebane.
The six wands are as follows.

Lifebane: Made of emerald. Also known as Life Taker. Its real name is Cyrkansotequielic which is also its command word.
Thunderholwer: Made of sapphire. Also known as Storm Creator. The command word is Ka-Cyrkansa-Ta-Marduka
Ashmaker: Made of ruby.
Oceanfury: Made of thryllic. Also known as Water Mover/
Earthwracker: Made of topaz. Also known as Earth Quaker/
Winterscourge: Made of diamond. Also known as Cold Maker/

Lifebane has a specific deadly trait attached to it. The user must sacrifice their life to power the wand. There are hints that the wand can be powered by means other than this step, or hints that possibly it can be safely used if enough time has passed since last used. Unfortunately, it has only ever been recorded as being used once and that one time did take the user’s life. Legend has it that Thunderhowler can be found in a black ivory case with a sapphire at each end. Running along the center is a line of 4 rubies. It has the following inscription. Within lies the power to unleash the might of the wind. But be warned, as no shield exists, simply speaking the words Ka-Cykransa-Ta-Marduka will unleash the power of the clouds. Once released, a mana drain will accompany the forthcoming storm. And once again be warned, this drain is permanent, so use with noble intent. Switching the rubies and the sapphires allow the case to be opened.

Known Uses of the Wands

4633- The brown dragon burnie uses Earthwracker to subdue shadow elves invading his caves and threatening his treasure. Not realizing the power of the earth Cyrkransis, he ends making a new cavern over 400 miles long, 800 miles wide, and 13 miles high. The surrounding shell of the cavern is a giant geode almost a mile thick.   739 BC Ashmaker is used to destroy a large army of orcs and goblins massing in the Jungles of Arg. Arg was a thousand-mile expanse of plains situation between two large mountain ranges.   48 BC Winterscourge is used on the Plains of Arg to slay a massive uprising of barbarian hordes. The plains are converted to the Tundra of Arg. This final use of the wands on the plains of Arg lead to many sayings comparing dismal failure to that of an army in Arg.   43 BC Lifebane is used by the original Shurandai known as Raven. He sacrifices his life to slay the Half God and in the process allowing the Gods of Peace time to mobilize against the return of the Gods of War.   1304 AC Suspected use of Oceanfury or Thunderhowler in the destruction of Zylonica.

Last Known Location

The last known location of the wands was that they were left in the old universe and not brought to the new universe. Emperor Zalkonea has located one of the original shafts, and with that, it hints that possibly a wand or two has crossed over. Additionally, a hurricane of unknown source devastates much of Zylonica, leading even the gods to believe that possibly Oceanfury or Thunderhowler was used.

The Shafts

Each wand is connected to a great shaft of extradimensional space deep in the earth. All of the shafts eventually lead to the old home of the Gods of War, Diamonshell. Some of the shafts have even been explored. Most wands have a species of creatures inside known as the Rashiars. Rashairs are semi-corporeal creatures which have a strong affinity for strong emotions in others. Usually peaceful, some are insane or cursed.   Winterscourge: Its shaft is known as Sogarge by the inhabitants. It is a massive jungle lining the entire 16 miles length of the shaft. At the very bottom is the Temple of Mastery, a pyramid whose secrets have yet to be unlocked. Journeying to the top of the shaft leads to the entrance of Diamondshell. The shaft is lit continually as if in full daylight.   Lifebane: Little is known except is inhabited by rashiars. Gravity extends to the outer edge of the shaft, so down is always facing outwards.   Ashmaker: A barren wasteland. If anything ever lived here, it is gone now. The entire shaft, while bearable for short periods, is dry and hot.   Oceanfury: Unknown   Earthwracker: A tube about 300 feet in diameter, it appears to be about 5,000 miles long. All gravity seems to point toward the outer edge in one direction, but as one travels down the tube the point seems to spiral around the tube. A river flows from the entrance to Diamondshell along the outer edge. Rashiars live here.   Thunderhowler: Known as Ka-Ta. A feature of this shaft is that it appears as a vast plain. Gravity faces outward, yet light bends inside of it. Though the land is circular, because the light bends, it looks like an infinite plane of existence. In 1296 AC, this shaft is rediscovered and this leads to much speculation that Thunderhowler is now in the new universe of Camoray. It is haunted by the spiritual remains of Rashiars who served the Famine King. The story of the Famine King is as follows:
Placed as caretaker of this holiest locale, known as the House of Thunder, the peoples of Rashiar dutifully fulfilled their diligences to their gods every day until the day their world was removed from the outer world by the great barriers. Cut off from fresh water and food, resources became scarce. In a most horrible decision, the King declared that only enough food and water existed to feed half the population. By lottery of which the King and his household were excluded, half the population was slain so that the others might survive. With food and meat especially scarce, the King used dark magic to preserve many of the bodies so that his household could continue to eat meat, eating the slain half of his population. But half the population was not enough, so half it was again. And yet, the King and his family did not suffer. The people of the Rashiar, feeling betrayed, rose up and imprisoned the king with his family, saying that if they want to eat, then they can eat each other. What happened in their bricked off prison is unknown. Within months, the Rashiars start losing weight and starving despite whatever they eat. It soon came to pass that they had been cursed with only human flesh being able to sustain them. The people then slowly descend to savagery as they fall upon themselves. However, this hunger didn’t end with death. Their spirits were hungry and unable to find release from the House of Thunder. Once all living flesh was consumed, the spirts began feeding off of each other, in an endless cycle. Worse yet, each spirit as it was consumed would be reborn days later, hungrier than before, for the flesh and spirits of its fellow Rashiars.

The Kyofu

When the six Cyrkransis were created, three more wands were also created and called the Kyofu or Last Retort. These were created by some of the Gods of War themselves. No one knows exactly which gods did it or why they didn’t have the Circle of Eight also make these crystals. When made, they were made to the same standards as the other six wands. So secret was their creation that the Gods of Peace were not aware they existed until Raxemores used them during 718 AC.   The three Kyofu are:   Nihilistic Dreams: Made of jet-black amber. Also known as Bondquencher, it completely eradicates all forces within the target area, completely breaking down matter to sub-atomic particles.   Mindslasher: Made of Amethyst, this wand completely destroys all thought and memory in the target area, potentially killing the minds of any caught in its effects.   Timegorge: Made of moonstone. This wand completely stops the progress of time for the targeted area, more or less causing it to cease to exist as it never makes it to the next second of existence.   Both Nihilistic Dreams and Mindslasher were used by Raxemores during the Day the Gods Died in 718 AC. He claims to also have in his possession Timegorge.   Now that the Kyofu are known, rumors have surfaced about their supposed associated shafts. Timegorge is reported as being a vast vacuum with no light. Mindslasher is reported as a place of solid rock interlaced with a mace of caves and caverns which continually rearrange themselves. Bondquencher is reported as being a shaft where the gravity faces outwards. Its shaft is made of smooth metal. No rashiars live here, however, Radoc’s are rumored to now live in this locale.
